Hi guys, I've just started to play Civ 3 and love it. Win some, lose some (monarch difficulty - I refuse to confess my ineptitude at lower levels.. :D LOL). Been lurking the forums but I registred to volunteer one very small comment:

CIV 4 MUST HAVE SOME WAY TO GATHER A STACK OF UNITS AND MAKE ONE SINGLE ARMY OUT OF IT!!!

There. I had to vent that out... lol. I say this because I hate having to press 'b' 100 times in order to fire every single artillery at an enemy city, every single turn. It's just too boring

Now, can someone see this suggestion gets to the development team? Thx :D

There is a button for moving units in a stack above the lower right hand panel. All units in that square will move together (at the speed of the slowest one in the stack).

Every unit in the stack attacks the same square.

Maybe he means ... moving the stack into the enemy units who happen to occupy the square? ie. attacking by default
Yes. Don't any of you here own C3C?

ADDIT: I think stack movement was available since PtW, but am not too sure.

Quote from Vanilla Civ3 patch 1.17:

* Added stack movement. Hitting 'j' will produce the goto cursor. Once you select a destination, every unit of the active unit's type in that square will move to the specified location. Air units of the same type will attempt to rebase.

The complete patch notes are here: http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3patches.shtml

What is needed is a function like you have had in RTS for a long time. Where you can lasso some units and form an army. You can add or remove individual units. This amry acts as one to move or to attack.

The lasso aspect may not be implemented easily, but I would think some key combo could be used to form, add and remove.

Thx for the info on the 'j' command guys. I am playing PTW 1.27f.

I'll definitely buy C3C if someone is proves me it has stack bombard. If it hasn't, I'll stick to PTW and modern armors :p

If you press SHIFT-J, you can move all units of a single type together as well.

And no, there's no stack bombard in Conquests. There is an Auto-Bombard feature though, meaning you can select a unit to bombard the same square every turn. It's somewhat limited however since anytime there's an enemy unit next to the bombard unit the orders get cancelled, unless you turn off that preference. It doesn't realy affect Artillery or air units since they have a two square and more bombard range.

I do not think you can stack bombard. You should get C3C. Alot new civs/units/civ traits. way better than vanilla or ptw.

Armies are broken though since the AI will no longer use Military Leaders to create them. Which also means it will never be able to build the Military Academy in order to build them.

Ok, so I've now mastered the 'j' command and it rocks. However, it's still beyond boring to fire every single freaking artillery. This needs a fix bad because artilleries are very effective in war. You have a much harder task without them.

By the way, I usually get a leader or two during the game, but can't seem to be able to build the Epic Heroic or Pentagon. What else do I need besides the leader? Do I need to form an army with him or something? I usually use the leader to hurry a wonder, not for armies.

Heroic Epic: you need a victorious army.
Pentagon: you need 3 armies already built.

I've heard from lots of people that C3C is quite more bugged as well. Broken armies, broken scientific age, new traits unbalancing, more exploits (like the 'black hole of Calcutta' with civil engineers).

According to the description, you need to have a victorious army in order to build the Heroic Epic and the Pentagon. That means you need to use your leader to form an army ("leader" and "army" are not the same thing), fill it with some units, and go out and kill something.

Preferably something weak. A lonely 1HP spearman on plains will do nicely. :)
