Forts don't connect resources on islands

I don't know what code change made this happen, but Archipelago maps are just a little extra annoying because you can't access a resource by putting a Fort on the island to allow the resource into your trade network. This means you have to actually put a city on every podunk little island that has a resource you want to claim even if the rest of the island is otherwise worthless. Normally (at least CivIV regular normally), you should be able use the resource with a Fort and Road on it as long as it is in your cultural borders.

As a note on this, I did build the fort and then the road because I am aware of the bug that caused the trade network not to update and give you proper credit for the resource if you build the road and then the fort.

That feature isn't in FfH.

No, i don't think that worked in normal civ iv.

It was added in BTS.

bActsasCity has been gone from forts for a long time, probably as a result of people constantly reporting boats on land as a bug (even though they were always in forts and this occurred in regular BtS).

Part of the reason was that the AI would only build forts on mana instead of nodes. I don't think there would be that problem with only the upgraded forts connecting resources though.

I know forts connect resources, but I didn't think it worked on islands.

Acts as city means that it acts as a city in all respects - from connecting a resource, allowing boats passage, to city attack and city defense bonuses. I'm not sure if regular FFH has this, but I know that orbis at least has towns act as cities. This can provide a way to connect resources that are on an island in your workable radius, but you don't want to plunk a city down on. If it functions as a city, you should be able to see such in the civilopedia.

Thanks for the info MagisterCultuum. It's a shame that the act as city made the AI get silly, but it makes sense. When the required tech is Never, the AI will build a fort so that the resource will be gained as soon as it discovers Never....

I actually do the same thing as the AI with Oil in base CivIV. I want that resource the instant I discover Combustion, so I build a fort on the Oil before I discover the tech - even if it's on an otherwise attractive tile in the BFC of a city. I'm perfectly willing to give up a decent number of hammers in exchange for not having to worry about remembering to hook up that resource when the time comes. :crazyeye:
