Fox-02 -- Praying to the RNG God

Kids! Bored of go-nowhere high school classes that you'll probably fail anyway? Have you ever considered if a life in perversion might just be your thing?

Or housewives! How many times have you had to fall back on vodka and sedatives just to cut through the day's monotony?

How 'bout gift-givers? What do you get the pervert in your life who already owns a tire iron, three billy goats, and a girl scout?

Try Rex Tyranus' Kinky Dice Roller. You'll be glad you did. ;)

Edit: I've played my first 5 turns, but my 'puter crashed at the beginning of turn 6. My last save was somewhere in the middle of turn 3

Edit 2: I've now played them all. I'll try to have the write-up tonight.

My turns Part I:

Turn 190 (1300 AD)
Okay, where the hell are we? Oh yeah, Russia. Hot broad. Got it.
It's turn 190 and--I think--Danski rolled our objective at the end of 189. He had one complete turn, so I think we have 29 more to go.
Let's get to it. We need to capture a city with a wonder or shrine. Can do.
Looking at the domestic advisor, all of our cities are well in the happy range. Except Antium, which has 5 more turns of resistence.
Looks like Danski has set us up on infrastructure builds. Fine with me.
We're also at war with everyone we know. Think maybe we aught to build a ship or two?
Colossus due in 3.
St. Pete (Petrigrad?) has some gems it's not working, but it can't afford the food to do so.
It'll grow in 9, then be able to work the gems. It'll then be stagnant.
Novgorod is stagnant while working a 1f1p tile. Civil service in 5 should help that.
Rostov is also stagnant at 6.
Bangalore could use a farm now.
Madras has one tile with 6 gold and another with 7. It's working neither for lack of food.
Delhi's got a lot of hammers it's not working. It could use a farm or two, too.
All in all, we've got a big damn empire.
Civil Service is done in 5
Civics are Representation, Barbarism, Caste System, Decentralization, and Organized Religion. I agree with all of them.
Bad news, guys. Checking the wonders screen, it looks like we own every wonder on our continent. Ships!
How is it we only have 2 coastal cities? We're financial!
The first choice is easy. Yaroslavl is building an aqueduct but isn't unhealthy.
Yaroslavl' begins: Galley
Switched to galley, due in 10.
I can't take Moscow off of the colussus with only 3 turns left, but I'll build a ship when it's done.
I'll end my inherited turn now.
Ptolemy (Great Scientist) born in Moscow
Worker loses to: Indian Horse Archer (6.00/6)

Turn 191 (1310 AD)
What's this? Imhotep born in Rome? Wonder in Rome soon? Sometimes, RNGod really lets us know that he's still got our back.
We lost a worker outside of Antium to a horse archer I couldn't see last turn. He must die for his offense to RNGod!
Whoops, that was an indian horse archer. Damn purples run together too easily.
Spearman promoted: Combat II
Spearman defeats (1.76/4): Indian Horse Archer
I note that we don't get our worker back. Bastard!
Our new great scientist can discover Philosophy.
Taoism has already been founded, so that's not worth beans.
Moscow has an academy. Yaroslavl is our next best science city, so Ptolomy will go there.
Axeman defeats (4.00/5): Barbarian Warrior
A look at Rome shows 3 longbows, a cat, a spearman, and Imhotep.
JC got screwed in the start location roll. RNGod be praised.

2006-04-14-01.jpg

Damn, IPA's one BMF.
End of turn 1
Rostov finishes: Granary
Swordsman loses to: Indian Horse Archer (4.86/6)
Swordsman defeats (1.26/6): Indian Horse Archer

Turn 192 (1320 AD)
Rostov begins: Forge
IBT, an Indian horse archer ambushed a swordsman I had scouting around India. Another Indian HA died attacking Antium.
Hee hee hee. JC makes hanging gardens. Thank you , Imhotep.
Yaroslavl' finishes: Academy
Academy built in Yaroslavl
One thing about Rome, it can only be attacked from one side. And JC has a cat.
We're going to need a lot of chain farming here in a few turns. Try to remember that before building cottages, guys.
Delhi finishes: Courthouse
Moscow finishes: The Colossus

2006-04-14-02.jpg

Turn 193 (1330 AD)
Moscow begins: Galley
Delhi begins: Forbidden Palace
Novgorod begins: Heroic Epic
Okay. Colossus is in. Yay us! Novgorod can't build the gardens any more so I begin on heroic epic. It's our biggest production city. Also, Delhi begins Forbidden Palace. The location is great and it is, after all, our second capital.
Because the gardens were turned into 217 gold. I deficit spend up to 80% science.
The odds in Lahore are ugly, but I think a sword, two cats, and two axes should take it.
First cat only reduces defense by 3%? WTH?
JC's added an elephant to Rome.
That garrison 2 longbow has got to go.
I used a turn to take the defenses down from 60 to 42 with two cats. 9% each. Why only 3 in Lahore?
Endo of turn 3
Tech learned: Civil Service

2006-04-14-03.jpg

Moscow finishes: Galley
Bangalore grows: 5
Calcutta finishes: Barracks
Delhi's borders expand
Swordsman loses to: Indian Horse Archer (4.80/6)
Swordsman defeats (3.84/6): Roman War Elephant

Turn 194 (1340 AD)
Research begun: Compass
Moscow begins: Galley
Calcutta begins: Horse Archer
Calcutta's a dump of a city. I could build a library, but that'd only gain about 1 beaker. I could build a market, but that'd gain 1 gold. A forge will gain 1 hammer. Phffbtt! Horse archer.
When civil service came in, I chose compass. We're going to need to travel over oceans if RNGod gives us another stinkin' "Capture three cities from three civs".
Asoka is slowly taking out our Antium defenses.
Again, my cats are only 3% on Lahore. 2 cats brought defenses down to 11%.
Rome's defenses are now down to 24%
St. Petersburg finishes: Market
Horse Archer defeats (2.40/6): Indian Horse Archer

Turn 195 (1350 AD)
St. Petersburg begins: Maceman
Antium begins: Library
Arabian civ has been destroyed????

2006-04-14-05.jpg

Antium comes out of resistence and look what we get. One f-ing tile? Rome's gotta die. F-it! They both gotta die!

2006-04-14-04.jpg

Asoka is menacing the north with a pillage-hungry horse. I'm not sure I have troops to spare.

/*****************
CRASH

My turns Part II:

Turn 194 (1340 AD)
Crash recovery: I've lost one turn.
St. Petersburg finishes: Market
Horse Archer defeats (2.40/6): Indian Horse Archer

Turn 195 (1350 AD)
St. Petersburg begins: Maceman
Antium begins: Lighthouse
Antium comes out of resistence with one tile to work.

2006-04-14-04.jpg

The Arabian civ is dead! One fewer civs for RNGod to despise.

2006-04-14-05.jpg

Lahore is down to 5%. Rome is down to 6%
Axeman defeats (3.90/5): Barbarian Warrior
Tech learned: Compass
Moscow's borders expand
Moscow finishes: Galley
Swordsman loses to: Roman War Elephant (0.96/8)

Turn 196 (1360 AD)
Research begun: Optics
Moscow begins: Maceman
Damn about that combat IBT. Lost a sword on a forested hill to a war elephant.
I've been having the absolute worst luck in combat lately. Look at the combat log. (Sorry, lost the screenie) We win 4 rounds in a row, then they win 5?
Swordsman promoted: City Raider I
Catapult promoted: City Raider I
Catapult loses to: Indian Archer (0.96/3)
I'm sorry. It just looks silly when an arrow kills a catapult.
Catapult promoted: City Raider I
Catapult loses to: Indian Axeman (3.70/5)
Axeman promoted: City Raider I
Axeman promoted: City Raider I
Axeman defeats (0.20/5): Indian Axeman
Wow. Wasn't expecting to win that one!
Swordsman defeats (6.00/6): Indian Archer
Christianity has spread: Lahore (Indian Empire)
Christianity has spread: Lahore
Captured Lahore (Asoka)
Razed Lahore
Christianity has spread: Lahore
Lahore lost
Spearman promoted: Combat I
Spearman defeats (2.64/4): Indian Horse Archer
I'm chaining a lot of farms all over the place.
Madras finishes: Pikeman
Calcutta grows: 5
Antium's borders expand
Spearman loses to: Indian Swordsman (6.00/6)

Turn 197 (1370 AD)
Madras begins: Maceman
Catapult loses to: Roman Longbowman (3.66/6)
Sorry. Forgot to announce that I'm beginning the battle for Rome.
Cat withdrew. Cool.
I don't think my cats did enough damage to those longbows. 2.1, 4.3, and 3.7
War Elephant defeats (0.96/8): Roman Longbowman
War Elephant defeats (1.60/8): Roman Longbowman
Swordsman defeats (3.60/6): Roman War Elephant
Sending in the IPA.
Axeman defeats (4.05/5): Roman Longbowman
Swordsman defeats (6.00/6): Roman Spearman
Okay, this is stupid. Rome has been under seige for three turns or so. The whole time, JC's had a longbow parked on the ivory that I can't get to without destroying his last city.

2006-04-14-06.jpg

Axeman defeats (5.00/5): Roman Catapult
Christianity has spread: Rome (Roman Empire)
Buddhism has spread: Rome (Roman Empire)
Christianity has spread: Rome
Buddhism has spread: Rome
Captured Rome (Julius Caesar)

2006-04-14-08.jpg

Rome captured with the Gardens in tact. RNGod happy!

2006-04-14-09.jpg

Time to roll again. Looks like I'm going to the kinky dice roller.

/************************************
Intermission:
************************************/

I'm really hoping that RNGod lets us go builder for a few turns. A nice "24 2/36 Learn a Tech that allows new unit" would really allow us to recover from these wars of attrition.

So here I go...

2006-04-14-dice.jpg

4, 1 Kill N*5 enemies

Holy ship! It's 1370 AD! We're in the sixth millenium! Where the hell are we going to find 30 dudes to kill???

Further, what kind of evil, satanic, blood-thursty God are we following? Good lord, did this guy burn cats as a kid? Nail bullfrogs to trees? Stuff fish with M-80s? What's with all the killin?

/************************************
End Intermission:
************************************/

Okay, I somehow have to hunt down and kill 30 troops.
We're 180 miles from Chicago. We have half a pack of cigarettes and a full tank of gas.
It's dark out and we're wearing sunglasses.
No problem! (I mean, "Hit it!")
Asoka has graciously offered up a victim to our RNGod's bloodlust.
We shall thank him with a smiting.
End turn 7
Moscow grows: 12
Horse Archer defeats (3.60/6): Indian Swordsman <--One down. 29 more to go.

Turn 198 (1380 AD)
We lost the circumnavigate bonus.
Yay! Barbarian nation contributes an axe to our cause. Of course, we only have an archer in the region. We'll se how that goes.
Catapult promoted: Accuracy
War Elephant promoted: Medic I
Swordsman promoted: City Raider III
And here's the last remnant of India. Horse Archer, Cat, Spear, 3 archers, and one Speedy Gonzalez

2006-04-14-10.jpg

That's 6 units to sacrifice to RNGod. 7 if we count the worker.
That's the end of turn 8.
St. Petersburg grows: 12
Bangalore finishes: Courthouse

Turn 199 (1390 AD)
Bangalore begins: Forge
Axeman promoted: City Raider II
I have an archer about to get hit by an axe. So I'm going to spend some of our pillaging funds to upgrade him to a crossbow
That's the end of turn 9
Tech learned: Optics

2006-04-14-11.jpg

Moscow finishes: Maceman
St. Petersburg finishes: Maceman
Yaroslavl' finishes: Galley
Delhi grows: 6
Islam founded in a distant land
Crossbowman defeats (5.28/6): Barbarian Axeman<--Two down. 28 more to go

Turn 200 (1400 AD)
Research begun: Feudalism
Moscow begins: Caravel
St. Petersburg begins: Maceman
Islam FIADL
Bastard horse archer pillaged a cottage outside dehli.
Pikeman defeats (3.30/6): Indian Horse Archer<--3/27
So I pillaged a village/cottage for 18
And then another cottage for 6
I'm also turning down the science slider . -59 per turn is only good when you're capturing cities.
End of my turns, buckaroos. Signing off now.

Aren't we trying to conserve water?

You might be, I live in a country where it rains every once-in-a-while. (Okay, yeah, we're in a drought, too, but not as bad as you.)

Did you took the pictures of all six sides each of your real dice?

Yes. It was a bit-h asking my wife for the digital camera without telling her why.

(Updated the original link of virtual dice page to yours)

Awww...the oficial raunchy dice of FOX02. How sweet.

Wow, we haven't even met Saladin and he is already turned to dust & ashes.

30 units ... 27 to go ... this is one time when I wished I'd turned on Raging Barbs

No, worker doesn't count. The keyword is "kill". And disbanding captured workers doesn't count either ... the keyword is "enemy".

Okay, as long as we remain in war, let's just hope that asoka keeps pumping "sacrificial lambs" for the RNGod. Also, may want to retract our fog-busters a bit to encourage "sacrificial barbies" growth.

Rooster
-- GreyFox
-- Dantski
-- rex_tyranus == Back to the Temple
-- omni_paul
-- n0xie
-- mucco == autoskip until computer is healthy again

Now, noticed I have not said who is UP. I am going to ask n0xie if he has patched. If he has, then paul is up. If he has not, I think n0xie can go first followed by paul. So, in other words:

Rooster
-- GreyFox
-- Dantski
-- rex_tyranus == Back to the Temple
-- omni_paul == (n0xie patched) ? UP : On-Deck
-- n0xie == (n0xie patched) ? On-Deck : UP
-- mucco == autoskip until computer is healthy again

Get it?

-

EDIT: rex, the save?

Here's the save. Sorry. ALso, I didn't point it out, but I've got a decent navy in the works. Three galleys are complete and a caravel is on the way. If our closest "friend" is reachable through the coast, we might be okay. If not, we can get to them through our caravel, but we can't send troops.

Question, if we sink a galley with an archer and a settler, how many kills does that count for?

omni_paul == (n0xie patched) ? UP : On-Deck

While I love the C-style tertiary operator, I'm not sure if many people reading this have any idea what it means. (RNGod bless C-style shorthand).

Fox, are you a professional programmer? if ( pro == true ) { answer_what_sort(); } else { go_f_yourself(); } :crazyeye:

That should count as three units. Three died because of the sinking, right?

rex said:
Fox, are you a professional programmer? if ( pro == true ) { answer_what_sort(); }
Hmmm ... no else part, so no answer

Ok, I work in a lab as a rat researcher. Sometimes I programs when necessary, but nowadays I rarely program. I miss it soley though.

-

@omni_paul: Well now that the save is revealed, if you get it before n0xie answers, then go ahead.

-

EDIT: To sound more coherently.

:goodjob: Great game guys!
Well, the RNGod has proven himself quite... aggressive.

1x5: Get Something for Free: Started 1800BC, Failed (Punishment: 2: Whip all cities).
- 5x4: Capture City w New Resources: Started 600BC, Completed 25BC, 25 turns.

If the dice continue to roll this way, there won't be any other enemies in the continent soon... This is a Jihad!
A really well played game, I wish I could play it. My computer is getting worse, few hopes to get back in this game. I'm happy I can run IE together with outlook at the moment .

Go minions! May the luck be with you!

So Paul, you going after me...

Why do I get the feeling I'm about to get some payback for all that crap I wrote about overthrowing "Omni Paul the Bland" in PH01? Turning the tables really sucks when you've been an A-hole half your life.

@Mucco. What the hell happened to your box, man? Is this hardware? If not, can't you just wipe the OS and start anew?

Edit: I successfully dual-patched tonight, so if anyone else has SGs in two different versions, I'd be glad to walk you through.

All hail the deceased King Rex Tyranus the Tyrant, Lord of Perversion, True Servant of the Random God in his Warmongering form!

All hail Omni Paul III, taker of the throne and avowed to continue our vengeful and bloodthirsty Lord's quest... to expunge the earth of 30 divisions of heathen soldiers so that their blood may mingle with the earth and make it clean again.

So Rex took down 3 enemies, leaving me with 27 in 27. Should be interesting, considering that India are down to 2 or 3 cities (probably 2), and the others are most likely across the ocean. I see we're building a caravel. That will be good for the LOOKING AND FINDING, but not so much the PUSHING AND SHOVING.

Anyway, basically I aim to smash 1 unit per turn on average. So long as we all keep that up, we'll be fine.

On the major upside, we're kinda dominant :D. Or, as the multiplayer set would say, 'WE PWN, N00B!'.

Ahem, so yes, priorities for this set of 10:

1. Smash 1 unit per turn on average.
2. Build the economy/infrastructure.
3. Find our esteemed opponents in the antipodes.

There is a barb city in the south. That could give us some fodder. Hopefully there are barbs spawning in the SE as well.

Commerce is a problem. We're losing 58gpt at 80% research. No good. I scale back to 50% @ -10gpt. Feudalism is now due in 4, not 3. Not too shabby.

A little MMing gets that back to -6gpt with the same rate, and some small production costs here and there.

OK... press ENTER already you freak.

<ENTER>

Here's the situation in the last Indian city:
RNGOD26.jpg

And a grim view of a future in which our opponents have a small tech LEAD over us (they're a Confuscian bloc).
RNGOD27.jpg

10 Turns > 10 Kills. Right on par, but it will get harder. There's some good smashing in Kolhapur, and the barbs keep spawining (there's a sword near Novgorod). Should be a close challenge.

NOTE: There are some boats on auto explore that the next player will want to bring back, and maybe upgrade to galleons when Astronomy comes in. Mo Tzu is heading north, and there are stacks of units moving on the last of the Indians. Other than that, it's all in good order. Oh, and you might want to chop some forest for the Hagia, or optimise for production. Either way, we want him.
