Fox-02 -- Praying to the RNG God

Damn! loses at those odds once again!!!

lurker's comment:
Remember, the calculator doesn't handle First Strike correctly. Your odds were probably over-estimated.

Also, 79.1% odds isn't that great. You're still losing 1 out of every 5 battles with those odds. And if I'm reading the log correctly, you lost 2 out of 8 battles that turn (not counting the sacrifice), which is 75% odds--not far off.

Respect and Fear the All-Knowing RNG God!

:worship:

Delhi is a tough beast... consider making peace for a city?

@ChrTh: I do realize that (First Strike and 80% isn't so great)... and I knew I :smoke: twice:
(1) Sword vs Charriot: shouldn't have taken the risk, should promote to Combat I.
(2) Taking of Madras: after the sacrificial axe, should have sent in the City Raider III axe to take out the non-promoted archer. But the odds for the swords was good enough for me (80%), well the risk was there, I took it, and lost. Such is the will of the RNGod. The Wheel Weaves as the Wheel Will... :(

@mucco: I would not take peace before taking calcutta ... anyway, not too sure if getting a city for free is counted into the RNGod's interpretation of "Capture or Found 3 cities" ... :D

@Rex: You love quoting from movie, don't you?

@Dantski: Good Luck!

Turn 0

Only a little MM in Moscow

Turn 1

Barb archer attacks one of our southern archers and loses.

Archer moves out of Calcutta, sword and axe move to intercept.

Leave Yaroslavl undefended, I put the warrior which is woodsman II in the forest between Yaro and the Barb city. He will be stronger there.

Turn 2

Axe kills Barb archer

Hinduism spreads to Yaro

While pillaging, I stumble across Lahore to the NW of Delhi.

lahore.jpg

Its on a hill though which could be tricky when we eventually attack it.

Turn 3

2 chariots and an archer appear outside Bangalore, a spear deals with one, taking minimal damage. A sword moves into the city to bolster the defence.

Turn 4

Spear defeats chariot, another appears nearby. Enemy archer goes towards our worker but he is safely moved away. The last military builds are in production for now.

Temple of Solomon BIFAL

Madras’ borders expand and reveal no land to the east of it.

eastmadras.jpg

Barb Axe appears to the SW, our shock promoted archer will deal with it.

Cut research to 50% at –6 GPT

Turn 5

Metal Casting -> Code of Laws (courthouses!)

Chariot attacks a Sword and withdraws after reducing sword to 50% health. I finish it off with Spear

Next GP in 4 turns, either a Prophet or Scientist,

Switch research to Mathematics, if I pop a Prophet I’ll grab Code of Laws that way.

Turn 6

Archer kills Indian Archer
Archer kills Barb Axe

Turn research down to 40% at -1 GPT

Turn 7

zzz

Turn 8

3 swords are heading to Burgundian, the Barb city to the south, I intend to raze it.

3 swords and an axe are gathering near Calcutta and will attack soon.

Turn 9

Merit Ptah (great scientist) born in London, he builds an academy all by himself.

3 chariots stand next to our Axe/War pairing near Delhi, however the Axe has over 100% defense bonus so should be safe.

Missionary spreads Hinduism to Bangalore which could use the culture and production bonus.

Forces in place to attack Calcutta.

Turn 10

Sword kills archer IBT

Battle of Calcutta
Sword loses to archer at 85% odds
Sword loses to archer at 75% odds
Axe defeats archer at 83% odds
Sword kills last archer at 99% odds

55 gold for capturing city.

Task achieved!

Before making peace with Asoka (and grabbing his techs) I’ll roll for our next objective first! Maybe it’ll tell us to get something for free so I can use the peace settlement or that and roll ANOTHER task!

4x4=16 = capture 3 cities from 3 different civs

Yuck, our economy is going to be horrendous.

So I make peace with Asoka for Maths (which I was getting next turn anyway) and Meditation, JC has Construction on us and with our objective in mind, I'd grab that ASAP.

Start on Code of Laws again

Barb galley appears off east coast of Madras

Turn 11

Bonus turn!

Zzz though

Okay. That puts me up. Three cities from three civs, huh? Asoka's the obvious first civ. I guess JC's #2. (Have we even found JC's land, yet?) We still haven't yet met anyone else.

Care to discuss strategy, anyone?

Also, does razing count as capturing?

Our own rules say Barb cities count and theres one of those (albeit not in a perfect position) with swords already nearby!

So no wriggling out of this one. :)

Good turns, objective completed! :)

And the next task is .... Holy Random Sh!t

The RNGod must be in a warring mode ... :hammer:

And, why peace now? We need 3 civs, bard counted as one, Asoka another, and JC the third, just enough for our objctives. Ok, after thinking a little, the 10 turns will give us chance to build up army, plus it milks us two techs.

Okay, on definition of "Capturing ..."

Obviously, we have to capture it first (STEP 1) before we can raze it (STEP 2). So yes, the RNGod Has Spoken: To Raze is to Capture.

@mucco: Pretty good set of turns, despite being "punished". I noticed St Pete was not whipped (didn't see the 17turns unhappiness like the other 2 cities when I hove rover the whip) ... is it due to pop cost?
Does that mean that the punishment hasn't been met?

 ... perhaps ... uh-oh, ruff-hi the Messager is sent by RNGod to pursue our negligence in dishing out the just punishment ... run, Minions, RUN!

Okay, I amended the punishment footnote to say that we must whip all cities. If city is not whipable due to pop cost, it must be whipped at the soonest instance. Only when all cities are whipped would our punishment be completed.

But I will forget about the incident if nobody mention this again ... afterall it happened 1000 years ago ... :) :mischief: ...

... Ok, if YOU must mention this ... I will load up the save at end of mucco's set, and physical whip St Pete (by using rubber band to :whipped: the city on my monitor) .... ok?

Where is JC? Taking one of his cities in 30 turns??? Tough task for us minions...

Oh One More Thing: raze the barb city!! It doesn't fit my Dotmap!

How did confucianism spread to a razed city?

lurker's comment:
That's a bug in the autologger. If you capture a city, it notes that any religions already there has "spread" to it. And it notes it twice, both before and after you decide whether to keep it or raze it.

Okay. I'm up and I believe I've got the save, though I haven't verified it yet. Problem is, I can either play my turns tonight or I could program the "Naughty Dice" webpage, (un)official dice-rolling page of the RNG minions.

Decisions, decisions....

Is there a pedantic role in the chaos SG? If so, he would drop in here and say ... "It isn't a bug in the auto logger. The GOTRELIGION event is fired by the capture (or raze) of a city and the auto logger just records it."

lurker's comment:
Shouldn't you be playing CTIV-5 and not wasting time being pedantic?

or ... code the dice rolling webpage now while at work and play at home tonight

I'm self-employed. Doing stuff like that's a lot less fun when the only one you're cheating is yourself.
