Fox-02 -- Praying to the RNG God

Despite that crap I wrote in the last post, I opened up the save. JC's nowhere to be seen. He's either down south through some ice bridge to another land, or on the other side of India.

Question: Would it count if we gifted a city to Caesar, then captured it two turns later?

Lurker: anxiously waiting for the next episode of the Great Saga of the Minions of the Even Greater RNG! May a random blessing fall upon you!:goodjob:

Actually, I'm in the attic, and the river is just a few meters away (on the ground of course...:) )

Oh, and why do barbarians count as civilizations? I thought they were just instruments used by the RNG to test your devotion.

Sorry guys. New rule in my house: "Dad watches the kids on Friday." Not so bad with the boy (who loves watching me Civ), but the girl needs attention and, occasionally, to be monitored.

Honestly! It's not like her fingers can actually fit in the light socket.

Either way, wife holds the trump card and I'll have to play and post tomorrow.

Sorry.

@rex: realized I didn't answered your question ...

Scratching my head... I thought that was what all the "Cheating-on-yourself-rex" crap was about. How else am I cheating on myself? Left hand?

Ahh. That's right. I'd forgotten my own hypocracy (it's easier that way). Anyhow. I'm about to play my turns. (with my wife's permission, of course)

Part I

Turn 140 (600 AD)
Okay. Ten turns of Rexian meyhem.
We're tied for last in GNP. Not good.
First in production, second in food, first in soldiers.
That's good.
RNGod's objective: Capture three cities from three civs.
Target 1 is Burgundian (barb). I'll raze it. Too much overlap.

2006-04-08-01.jpg

Target 2 is probably Lahore (India). We're at peace with Asoka, so I'll have a few turns to marshal troops up yonder.

2006-04-08-02.jpg

Target 3 is whatever Roman city has the gold. Though I'm worried Delhi will get it as soon as we capture it.
That makes Delhi target 4, right?
Lotta barbs around.
Bangalore's under heavy culture crunch from Delhi.
Ditto Madras.
The last player left a lot of infrastructure building. I won't switch anything.
Calcutta is still in resistence for another 2 turns
We're running organized religion, slavery, and representation.
OR is fine. We have a lot of infrastructure builds, though some of those cities don't have hinduism.
Slavery is fine. Never know when you'll need it.
Representation is great. Let's see if we have any specialists going.
Okay, Rostov doesn't have a lot of food. But to not work the gold mine is insane.

2006-04-08-03.jpg

MM Rostov. Stop working two 1F2P tiles. Begin working one 2F tile and one 3P7C tile.
We lose one hammer, but we gain 7 gold.
MM Bangalore. I stop working the 1F1P tile and make a citizen. We lose one food, but gain 3 beakers while running representation
And thus ends the inherited turn

Turn 141 (620 AD)
I'm sending our spearman up to the north.
Worker outside Bangalore finishes camp. Move hie to Calcutta to build another deer camp
IBT barbs moved into the pridelands
Why do we have all these damn signs all over the place?
Axeman defeats (4.40/5): Barbarian Warrior
Small risk. Barb archer in the forest next two two Swords.
Neither sword has used their promotion. I could give a combat I to one.
But the odds are already 85%
I go in sans-promo
Swordsman defeats (0.24/6): Barbarian Archer
Wow. 0.2/6.
Swordsman promoted: City Raider I
Swordsman promoted: City Raider II
Gave that dude two city raiders and he's back up to 4.6
Move the healthy sword down toward barb city
Sent my son to his room for mouthing off.
Worker begins farming corn near barb city
I move a sword, an axe, and a spear toward NW India.
Thus ends turn 1
St. Petersburg's borders expand
St. Petersburg finishes: Library
Madras finishes: Archer

Turn 142 (640 AD)
St. Petersburg begins: Forge
Madras begins: Barracks
Calcutta begins: Archer
Ste Pete expanded so we now have horses in our borders (if we didn't already)
Anyone smell Cossacks?
Swordsman promoted: City Raider I
I begin the attack on Burgundian. I only have one guy who can attack this turn, so I won't take it until the next.
Promote sword to city raider I
86.9% odds on unpromoted archer
Swordsman defeats (4.08/6): Barbarian Archer
Now that we have 2 archers in Madras, I move the insanely promoted axe up to the NW India soon-to-be front
Caesar's got a lot of techs he won't trade us. Bastard!

2006-04-08-04.jpg

Good night turn 2
Rostov finishes: Library

Turn 143 (660 AD)
Rostov begins: Swordsman
Some dude was born somewhere.
Swordsman promoted: City Raider II
Swordsman promoted: City Raider I
The battle of Burgundian continues.
I upgrade last turn's winner to raider II and upgrade the other sword down there to raider I. Raider II is 5/6. Raider I is healthy. They both have 87% odds.
Send in Raider II
Swordsman defeats (1.68/6): Barbarian Archer
Captured Burgundian (Barbarian)
Razed Burgundian
Burgundian lost
Raider II now has 8XP
I send raider I up to the north. Raider II will heal for a bit (after he gets into our cultural borders)
There's a barb boat, but we have no sea resources to protect.
Barb boat set to "ignore"
Copper is mined.
Good night turn 3
Moscow grows: 10
Novgorod finishes: Swordsman
Yaroslavl' grows: 3

Turn 144 (680 AD)
Novgorod begins: Swordsman
Congrats...yada yada...1 Million souls
Our vanguard spies two indian chariots guarding a settler. Have fun with your useless city.

2006-04-08-05.jpg

Can't redeclare for 5 more turns or I'd have us a free worker and XP
End of turn 4
Calcutta's borders expand

Turn 145 (700 AD)
Calcutta expands so we have silver in its fat cross now.
Say hello to Karachi. Asoka will have iron in a few turns. I think I'll sit our van on top of the iron for a bit.

2006-04-08-06.jpg

Better yet, why don't I park the van in our culture 1 tile soth of Karachi. Then I can take it on the turn I declare.
Tech learned: Code of Laws

2006-04-08-07.jpg

Novgorod grows: 7
Yaroslavl' finishes: Lighthouse

Part II

Turn 146 (720 AD)
Research begun: Horseback Riding
Yaroslavl' begins: Library
We've apparently gained access to copper.
JC adopted hereditary rule
I decide not to implement caste system.
Novgorod can't support an eighth populace.
I MM growth to stagnant by stopping work on a 1F2P tile and add a citizen (1P + 3 beakers with representation)
Okay, we now have two "citizen" specialists. Castes System could turn those into scientists, but we'd have a turn of anarchy and 5 more upkeep gold.
6 beakers for 5 gold + anarchy...hmmm.
I decide to do it.
Swordsman defeats (4.44/6): Barbarian Archer
Holy crap. Asoka's got 4 chariots in Karachi. What's he preparing for?

2006-04-08-10.jpg

End of turn 6

Turn 147 (740 AD)
Another dude born somewhere else
MM Novgorod to turn citizen into scientist.
MM Bangalore to do the same. Only one hammer in Bang now. We need to build a farm. Oh and kill Dehli so we can work the copper.
Got that guys? Say it with me: "Kill Dehli"
End of turn 7
Two turns until we can take Karachi.
Which now only has 2 chariots. The others must have been escorts for the worker that just arrived.
St. Petersburg grows: 8
Novgorod finishes: Swordsman
Bangalore's borders expand
Axeman defeats (4.55/5): Barbarian Warrior

Turn 148 (760 AD)
Novgorod begins: Axeman
Novgorod begins: Spearman
I changed my mind on the Axe. With all the chariots I'm seeing, I want another spear or two up there.
Yikes! We have a barb swordsman on the perimeter.
Fortunately, we have a kick-ass axe in the region

2006-04-08-11.jpg

End of turn 8
Rostov grows: 5
Rostov finishes: Swordsman
Bangalore grows: 3

Turn 149 (780 AD)
Rostov begins: Spearman
I decide that at least one of my shiny new units need to got to Madras. 2 archers won't be enough if Asoka launches a counter-strike.
One of the spears should go to Bangalore as well.
Oh joy! I can declare war again! RNGod be praised!
We (I) might be sacrificing our shiny new copper mine by declaring.
But RNGod punishes sloth
Hello! My name is Inigo Montoya! You killed my father! PREPARE TO DIE!

The battle for Karachi

2006-04-08-08.jpg

Sending in the insanely promoted axe
Axeman defeats (3.70/5): Indian Archer
Spearman defeats (2.96/4): Indian Chariot
Swordsman defeats (4.44/6): Indian Chariot
Razed Karachi

2006-04-08-09.jpg

Two down. Karachi was size one, but I figured it had some culture. Guess not. Razed.
End of turn 9. Time to see if Asoka's built any troops during the cease fire
Moscow finishes: Forge
Yaroslavl' grows: 4
Calcutta grows: 2

Turn 150 (800 AD)
Moscow begins: Spearman
Axeman defeats (1.00/5): Barbarian Swordsman
That's one dead barb, eh boss?
Our lone southern sword has finally healed. I leave him down to bust fog.
Okay, Bangalore's a bit safer with a spear.
Insanely propoted axe is left to heal for 2 turns.
Same with our spear right next to him

End of turn 10.
We're bleeding gold pretty fast. If RNGod will allow, we should think about some courthouses.
Our GNG is 3????

2006-04-08-13.jpg

Horseback riding is due in 1
We absolutely have to bring Dehli to its knees. Kaput. Dead. Fin. Got it?

2006-04-08-12.jpg

Got it.

Why do we have all these damn signs all over the place?
:rotfl:  It's probably my fault...

1. How many turns are left to achieve the task?
2. Where is the save? - Oh, wait. Maybe the report isn't finished yet...

I'll get to the game if I manage to open civ. I've had quite a number of different and various crashes the last time I tried.

Okay, here's the save. I _think_ we've got 19 turn left on the assignment. I wasn't really keeping track. (30 turns to accomplish each task, right? The guy before me played 1, I played 10.)

Good turns Rex.

In any case, we won't want to keep Karachi, so its good that it got autorazed.

Yes, we need courthouses. ASAP.

19 turns left. 2 down, 1 more (JC's).

@mucco: you got it before the save was posted? Or you got it r: "Delhi. Dead. Kaput. Fin."?

Insanely propoted axe
I think we should add a rule that whoever gets IPA killed should be sacrificed to the RNG god. I want the beloved IPA to last to till the end: see if we can get him above the 27 xp thresshold :P

@mucco: you got it before the save was posted? Or you got it r: "Delhi. Dead. Kaput. Fin."?

Both senses
What's IPA? Sorry, I haven't really understood that one... is he a renamed unit?

I was referring to the Axeman with City Raider I, II, and III plus a Combat I promotion as the "Insanely Promoted Axe". N0xie shortened it to IPA. No, I did not rename the unit.

(Unlike Kamikazee Club Monkey from Rise of the Queen Mother)

Don't forget Sargeant Chop, ROTQM's answer to the IPA.
