Fox-03 -- Trying to be Special

Resume to original Roster tthen :crazyeye: ...

So, blid you can unskip your skip, and Kikinit can un-got-it his got-it for the unskip-skipped which he is not suppose to get it anyway... everyboy got it?

Headache it is. Original roster is quite simpler :D

GreyFox said:
But I will only play tomorrow 24 hrs time.

Okay with me, just take your time or I will need to put Kikinit Up again :p

Ok so I'm not up. That's fine with me. I would have had to play in 24 hours too.

It also gives me some time to try and install a 1.52 version of civIV if anyone behind me doesn't yet want to patch. Speak up now or forever hold your peace! It will not worry me to have the 2nd copy on my HD for a while but I only need it for this game so won't bother unless someone wants it that way.

Yes please tell us what country that is... So I can MOVE there ! ! ! ! ! !

Did someone say something about having a personal vendetta with Kublai? :crazyeye:

GreyFox Sieze the Throne

Rumors has it GreyFox wasn't too happy about the fact that Frankfurt was turned into a Gold-City instead of a GP-Farm. Also, he was swondering why (a) if Frankfurt was a Gold City, is it havinga farm instead of cottages in the floodplains, and (b) the horse were not connected. Thus he assasinated the previous king rex and sieze the throne for his own. Little does he knows the events awaiting him ....

Meanwhile, he was satisfied that Germany was reported as the 2nd largest Civ.

fox03-b-largest.jpg

As a celebration, he embraced Qin, the close neighbor, with open borders, and traded Monothesim for Archery with Qin.

But ill-fate awaits the unfortunate people of Germany ...

War!

Apparently, Kublai Khan was a friend of the assisnated king. Upon receiving news of GreyFox's usurp, war was decalred on the German empire.

:hammer:

Almost all action of war were seen in Munich ...

The first action of war begins with the German swordsman pillaging the Mongolian marble quarry. Then, in 250BC, the spearman freshly out of Munich barracks training reported back:

"We have engage the borg."

A chariot was killed by the spearman, but he immediately lost to a Monolian swordsman ...

Turn 105 (250 BC)
Spearman defeats (4.00/4): Mongolian Chariot
Spearman loses to: Mongolian Swordsman (2.94/6)

Then, it was our turn again ...

Turn 106 (225 BC)
Axeman promoted: Combat I
Axeman defeats (1.40/5): Mongolian Swordsman

Turn 108 (175 BC)
Spearman defeats (4.00/4): Mongolian Chariot

The Mongolian did sent more Chariots from a galley and from land.

But they all died at the hands of brave German warriors ...

Turn 107 (200 BC)
Swordsman promoted: Combat I
Swordsman defeats (4.08/6): Mongolian Chariot

One chariot stops to pillage the cow in Munich, but it dies at the hand of another Germa Spear ...

fox03-b-war-action.jpg

Turn 108 (175 BC)
Spearman defeats (4.00/4): Mongolian Chariot

More suicide atatcks by Kublai in Munich follows ....

Turn 109 (150 BC)
Spearman promoted: Combat I
Spearman defeats (1.92/4): Mongolian Chariot
Axeman defeats (2.90/5): Mongolian Chariot
Axeman defeats (2.40/5): Mongolian Spearman

And one more suicide of Mongolian axe at the goldmine north of Hamburg ...

Axeman defeats (3.30/5): Mongolian Axeman

The galley, after unloading the now dead chariots, prompty proceed to pillage the clams of the west coast of Munich ... for that, GreyFox answers with a tech trade of sailing from JC.

Current situation at Munich:

GreyFox Escapes

Admist the chaos of the fledging empire of German thrown suddenly into a war, GreyFox was reported to have sneaked away from the palace, and seeked assylum with Qin.

The German Empire is now without a ruler ... and two are in the position to sieze the German Throne. First in line was Blid, and second in line was Kikinit ... who would emerged as the next leader for the wartime Germany?

The Save:

Nice job Grey taking down all these units :goodjob:

Now is it time to be on the offensive ?

Objectives :
- Switch to HR
- Rush some swords/axes/spears
- build a galley to defend water resources
- Try to take Beshbalik
- Raze Old Sarai
- Make a missionary or Two
- Bribe Alex to war Kublai (if not redded that is)

I know this is too ambitious for 10 turns but at least I will start the job

I am thinking of researching construction when done with maths. This is a 12 turns research time and only worth investing if you plan to continue war with Kublai a little while. Other possible choice is monotheism (4 turns I think). No one wants to trade it and organized religion is helpful

Too bad Alex already converted to Judaism

BTW, this is my got it if u still not sure :crazyeye: . Won't pass on some warmongering. But I think I won't play before tomorrow of Thursday. So feel free to criticize my plan

Looks like blid beat me to it. And I'm yet to ever play a turn in war in an SG! Hopefully blid won't sue for peace within these 10 turns.

blid, are you going to play the turns in 1.52 or 1.61?

And well done in defending our empire Grey! I do have a vendetta against Kublai. He always seems to start wars and is best exterminated as soon as possible.
.

:shake: Peace ? who's that ?

Kikinit said:

1.52 I think. I have both versions so if boss wants I can convert

Up to you. We have to convert within this round anyway, since 2 players are already in 1.61. If you like the autolog, then play with 1.52. If you don't, play with 1.61.

I think it will not affect Normal Speed game, right?

:hammer: Tell Kublai this: YOU HAVE CHOSEN UNWISELY. :hammer:

By the way, I traded sailing, so a galley cna be built to get rid of that mongolia vessel in munich.

That was part of the plan ;)

I do like autolog. Means there's no stable version yet for 1.61 ?

Question: Why switch to HR?

We have happiness problems and I expect to do some more whipping. Cost increase in civic upkeep is 2 gpt with current pop size. On the other side, we can wait to have mono (research or trade) to switch 2 civics at a time. In this case, I will try to whip instantly 2 pops in angry cities. I am not sure if a sword costs 1 or 2 pops on the second turn of building (first turn rushing is penalized and I rarely use it)

And yes, what do u think of Beshbalik, just in case ... u know :mischief:
On the scrennshot above, t'seems like there is a lot of jungle/grassland to turn into cottages. On the other hand, 2 grassland hills and marble is decent prod. Guess I'll have to check east side before deciding but if u have ideas, just tell me

I too have autolog working in 1.61. One caveat to that, when the game starts loading and you get the option to change the name of the log file, I have to press OK immediately or the log doesn't work, so it's not perfect. If I catch it in time, the log is exactly as before.
.

Since I was planning to beat that Kublai Guy anyway, he just saved me the trouble to try convince ya :)

But let's check if we are prepared. Former leader has maybe escaped but he did order some army preparation before leaving the city. Swords being built in three cities. Hmm good. We'll need them eventually
But let's just have a spear in Munich for chariots that may visit us first and a galley in Berlin. This one is for rushing purpose as I needed 2 pop cost in second turn to kill angry citizens

Turn 110 (125 BC)

We meet Asoka. Guess we now know all people around
AI are offering me maths (1 turn to research) for alphabet or monarchy. They really think I am a moron

Turn 110 (125 BC)
Munich begins: Spearman
Berlin begins: Galley
Cologne finishes: Work Boat
Contact made: Indian Empire

Turn 111 (100 BC)

Next turn Kublai sends an archer to pillage our farm near Hamburg. I send an axe for a routine mission. Wrong :

Axeman loses to: Mongolian Archer (0.75/3)
Blid comment: Axe loose to archer with 94% chance

Next axe sure finishes him off without a scratch but it really feels frustrating
Axeman defeats (5.00/5): Mongolian Archer

We also discover Maths.

Turn 112 (75 BC)

Research set to monotheism. And We have this :
Confucianism has spread: Corinth (Greek Empire)
some good news. Free religion spreading

corinth.jpg

IBT
Wine is hooked, no more hapiness problems anywhere. Have missed this one first time but now HR can wait for sure

Turn 113 (50 BC)
units in progress. Kublai assembles some troops in Beshbalik

kublaiAssemblingTroops.jpg

Turn 114 (25 BC)
Was toying again with the foregin advisor to check some possible trades and I see this :

Feudalism.jpg

What the fu#? is this. Feudalism already.
Okay calm down, just keep to the plan for the moment

We learn mono and some more auto religion spread.

Tech learned: Monotheism
Berlin grows: 7
Berlin finishes: Swordsman
Confucianism has spread: Hamburg

Turn 115 (0 AD)

Research set to construction. We definitely need cats. Start a missionary in Berlin. Some mongolian units came to pillage our precious resources. Very unwise

Research begun: Construction
Berlin begins: Confucian Missionary
Spearman defeats (3.48/4): Mongolian Chariot
Spearman defeats (2.88/4): Mongolian Chariot
Axeman defeats (2.60/5): Mongolian Swordsman

To be continued...

Turn 116 (25 AD)
Louis XIV declares on Asoka. This horn makes me nervous. Just thought we had a second invasion

LouisIVXInWar.jpg

Turn 117 (50 AD)

lib is rushed in Frankfurt for 2 pops. It was taking 30 turns to complete :crazyeye:

Munich produces sword. That was the last awaited unit. Time to head for Beshbalik

Blid comment: rush lib in Frankfurt
Berlin finishes: Confucian Missionary
Hamburg finishes: Spearman
Munich finishes: Swordsman
Cologne finishes: Swordsman
Frankfurt finishes: Library

Turn 118 (75 AD)

The second scientific city, Hamburg, starts monastery. Another missionary is ordered.
Another wandering mongolian chariot is destroyed.

Berlin begins: Confucian Missionary
Hamburg begins: Confucian Monastery
Munich begins: Work Boat
Cologne begins: Lighthouse
Frankfurt begins: Granary
Spearman defeats (2.32/4): Mongolian Chariot
Spearman promoted: Medic I
Cologne grows: 6

Turn 119 (100 AD)
We are circling Beshbalik

attacking.jpg

The bait worked. The lonely sword on the hill S of Beshbalik attracted an axe and a sword out of city. Our sword die but the combat 2 axe is gone and the sword is in poor shape

Berlin finishes: Confucian Missionary
Swordsman defeats (2.94/6): Mongolian Axeman
Swordsman loses to: Mongolian Swordsman (3.00/6)

Turn 120 (125 AD)
And the finale. I wasn't aware it was my last turn on the moment.
First sword promoted with cover beats the longbowman. Feel some justice for my axe loosing to an archer in open ground. Next we loose a sword but Beshbalik is ours. The a$$hole have not done much improvements

BeshbalikDown.jpg

Berlin begins: Confucian Missionary
Berlin begins: Confucian Temple
Swordsman promoted: Cover
Swordsman defeats (1.14/6): Mongolian Swordsman
Swordsman defeats (0.48/6): Mongolian Longbowman
Blid comment: glorious sword beat longbow with 15% chance. Some compensation for the axe/archer combat :)
Axeman promoted: Combat I
Axeman promoted: Shock
Axeman defeats (3.30/5): Mongolian Chariot
Axeman promoted: Combat I
Axeman promoted: Shock
Axeman defeats (0.75/5): Mongolian Chariot
Swordsman promoted: City Raider I
Swordsman loses to: Mongolian Spearman (1.60/4)
Swordsman defeats (3.60/6): Mongolian Spearman
Captured Beshbalik (Kublai Khan)

Some moves I had just cancelled when I saw I finished my turnset (that was too fast)

a missionary on his way to Alex lands (yes, I opened borders with the guy).

missionary.jpg

Some defense for Beshbalik. The swords there should head for some new conquest. One of them is 11 xp points, so Heroic Epic can be started somewhere when he is promoted

goDefend.jpg

Another missionary for Alex and a sword on some attacking duty.

units.jpg

I have an axe NW of Hamburg in Kublai lands trying to see what city is there. Just lost the screenshot

My afterthoughts :

Beshbalik is in revolt and it does not have a designation yet. I think Prod is good as we are short on those. Three hills and marble. A banana tile to feed those hills. Can be another science city too with all those jungle tiles that can be turned into cottages. With windmills and dyes, it would have a very good income. Hybrid fits better but we are not in the ratio yet

I set Berlin to build a temple. No hammers invested yet so feel free to change. A lighthouse may be better. In fact, I think Cologne should build a temple when its lighthouse is done so next it can have a priest generate points for the first prophet

I played chicken at some point of the game and accepted a demand from Louis IVX for wine. Please remember to cancel when possible.

Cats and swords will have a hard time against longbows. We need to find an ally against Kublai (Alex is the best candidate I think) that should keep him busy until we take/raze another 2-3 cities. Maces are not ready anytime soon

Next city to take down IMO should be the one east to Beshbalik still to be uncovered from fog. Old Sarai should come next as I supsect it is costing Kublai more than giving him
