Fox06 - Waiting For Swords

The bad joke ( or the chickens strike back... )
Spoiler :
What does a rooster says to another?
Spoiler :
Let's go to the supermarket see naked chickens!

Turnset

Turn 0 – Decided to follow GreyFox’s advices and to start researching Astro ( obviously to have a strong navy, in spite of obsoleting Collosus :p ( p.s I noticed that we don’t have compass...I wonder why  )) Made this deals to get something out of Natio:
Spoiler :
DealwithHan0000.jpg

DealwithWash0001.jpg

I could had taken Compass from wash but it doesn’t worth the WFYABTA points.
Wang has Scimet, Hatty, Asoka and Wang have Economics and all but us and Wash have RP .... we still have the monopoly on Steel.

Turn 1 – IBT Hindu cames to our lands ( you’re a little late, Hatty....).
Spoiler :
Alittletoolate.0000.jpg
Brennus has GG ( not good.... ) and a Indian GG dies in combat

Turn 4 – Brennus captures a Korean city.....

Turn 5 – Wang made this prop. We don’t need Constitution for anything, so i declined it.
Spoiler :
Wangprop0000.jpg

Asoka and Han made peace. Asoka is willing to take out Brennus for steel....
Checked F9... Han had a enourmous power jump (most surely rifles ). Not with hands full ATM
Turn 6 – Brennus demands:
Spoiler :
Brennusdemand0000.jpg

Not sure... but he’s in war, so it should be safe to deny it
Hatty has rifles too

Turn 8 – He have horsies :woohoo: ( courtesy of a border pop )

I decided to stop the game in 1525, with the discovery of Astro.

Thoughs

We have some trade options with astro and a bribe op against Brennus by Asoka ( for steel ... IMHO we should, in spite of still having monopoly on it). Han is unbribable ATM and no one wants to fight him.
Everybody but Wash has rifles....
Research was set in Scimet ( no beakers invested ). No GS was discovered recently, so I assume that Wang ( the only one with SciMet ) does not have Physics yet ( he is loosing steam... Brennus is having the upper hand in the war )
Do we build IW next in our fair city or we wait for Biology to counter :yuck: with food?

Roster

GreyFox - UP , and prepaging a rant about my game :p
Imhotep - On deck ( still has to expain who is the loudmouth :trouble: )
Shyuhe

r_rolo1 - Just played , hopefully not as bad as his jokes

Good luck!

opps, I was thinking of Physics when I said Astro obsoletes TGL :crazyeye:

We hadn't built the IW while in GAge? ... comeon, don't be too worried abt +2 unhealthiness, the +50% production is more than worth it. With the IW, w edon't have to work on the plains workshop, we don't have to work on the plains forests ... the additional food by working on grassland forest instead of plains forest is more than compensating for the IW's greenfaces.

Wang already had SciMeth? Damned, War or no war, he is gonna steal our free GS. I can only hoped we have a GS fast enough to LB physics.

Go it.

A guy brought his blind date out, and whenever he asked her what she wanted to do, she always replied: "I wanna get weighed."

Perplexed, the guy found he a weighing machine after dinner, after movie, and after desert.

"Man, this girl sure was conscious with her weight." he thought.

When the girl went back, her room mate asked, "How's the date?"

She replied, "I had a wousy day."

Okay, so we wanted to get Asoka into the war:

fox07-AD1525-asoka.jpg

Since Astronomy is out, I sold it for 680g to Hatty as well:

fox07-AD1525-hatty.jpg

I checked, she is unwilling to part with Replaceable Parts for Astro. Chances are, she is close to researching Astro herself.

Next turn, I proceed to trade her Steel for Rifling.

fox07-AD1535-hatty.jpg

There goes the round of trading. I used the gold to upgrade our troops. I'd also completed the observatory which compensated a little for the loss of TGL when SciMeth came in. I'd also started Iron Working and revolted to Free Religion.

Now city MM'ing. I focused on growth, and found that we only had 5 forests in our BFC.

fox07-AD1525-city.jpg

Might as well chop off one more and convert to farmland.

We also had a great engineer pop:

fox07-AD1555-engineer.jpg

He is sleeping. Damed, I was hoping for a scientists for a Physics LB. I think we best save the engineer for Jack's Beanstalk. The GS from Physics is still available according to the hover text at the end of my turns.

Research wise, we should continue to go for Computers (maybe a little diversion to Biology). The next player may want to switch IW to something else at the last turn to avoid having the greenfaces too early. But I do advocate continue adding troops at 1 per turnset.

Today is your luck day, the top joke reminds me for an old one ...

What does the six-inch pianist says to the man who leads a million ducks?
Spoiler :
DOn't let me find that hearing-impaired genie again ...

Nice... we have oil :woohoo: ( Al would be nice too :p )

Good too see that Brennus power is not rising and that Hannibal is not ploting against us

The GS form Physics is still untaken ( by what I can see, wang diverted to Communism ( noob AI ) )... Maybe we will get it against all odds :please: ?

We can still get some techs from Astro and steel selling them to Hannibal. Should we? ( I tested it and he is willing to trade Economics + 690 gold per Astro )

About the jokes: 1st :vomit: and the 2nd :vomit: ( BTW what happened to the impartial judge? I hope someone had paid his salary  )

Man.. Can you believe I'm still trying to figure those jokes out? It sucks not to have English as your first language... But the first one is definitely :vomit:

I like both Mr Fox's ideas: Save the GE for Space Elevator and sticking one unit / turnset....

I think Wang's problem getting Communism is that he's trying to get the free Great Spy. This is not BtS. This is the :old: sword. Sorry!

About Hannibal... In my set I avoided him at most. He's not liked by other AI's, but I don't know if he's someone else's worst enemy.

So, after Sci Meth, it's Physics, Biology and beeline Computers? I almost never race to Alpha Centauri... Actually, I never did it beyond Noble level... I'd need a good tutorial here... :mischief:

My shot would be beeline computers after Physics and Biology ( no-brainers ) and build the net ( and BTW, :please: for coal and Al ). It is our only shot: we simply don't have the man power to overcome the massive Emperor bonuses + having just one city....

Well, not the Great Spy but perhaps Wang is going for the Great General from Fascism seeing he is at war (and wosing , at least before Asoka joined in).

I think we are going along just fine in research. Biology would nicely boost our GS pool a little (at least until we start building factory and RI), so I think we could go close to 500+ beakers per turn. We may not need to go for Internet. Even if we do want to beeline for the FO, we still need computers to enable the Net. So, might as well learn one more tech of Robotics to trigger the Space Elevator first.

I am not at all worried abt beakers ... it is production that I am worried about. It will be really nice to have coal to boost the production a little.

Sorry, have been a bit sick, will catch up.

But, I must say, I'm proud of you guys, you're jokes are REALLY getting lousy!

First to my bad joke...

Spoiler :
Test for heavy drinkers

A man goes into a bar. Behind the barkeeper stands a pot with a lot of money in it. After some time he asks the barkeeper about the pot. "Well, this is the jackpot for my test. If you succeed you'll get all the money in it, if not, you gotta pay $ 100."

After some beers the man decides to tackle that test. The barkeeper tells him the tasks:

1st task: Drink 2 litres of Tequila in one draught without stopping.
2nd task: In the court behind the bar is a chained PitBull. He has an ill tooth with has to be pulled, and that without any tools.
3rd task: On the 1st floor above the bar resides the barkeeper's grandma. She never had an orgasm yet. You have to change that, and in a manner that all in the bar can hear it.

After some thought the man decides to accept and starts. He puts the Teqila bottle to his mouth. After some time he has tears in his eyes, but he finishes and the bottle is empty. Rising applause in the bar !

He now goes for the 2nd task and leaves for the court, swaying. After a short period you hear loud baying and barking, the sounds of combat and the yells of the man. Then dead silence. Everyone thinks the man has been killed.

As the man enters the bar a thunderstorm of applause is arising. After the applause subsided the man says:

"Now where is that grandma with that ill tooth ?"

Well, my turnset wasn't quite so funny.

Oh oh. That does forebode even worse things...

.............

Okay, time to organize defense. The first visible troops are not too scary.

55578107mp3.jpg

I thought about revolting to Nationalism and drafting, but couldn't yet.

77444501eg9.jpg

Lead is thick in the air...

19048167tn9.jpg

Then Hannibal walked in and put his gun on our breast. I had no other choice but to give in, seeing that he had already enough on his hands and we wouldn't survive a 2 front war...

56095065hm1.jpg

Hatty has a new toy.

98942249gx9.jpg

I then constantly checked if anyone would declare on Brennus, but no luck. I then revolted to Nationalism, which probably was big weed. I thought you could draft thrice in OCC, but it is not so. Bureaucracy would have served us better then as we could produce one unit/turn anyway.

20208423pn9.jpg

However I put an end to the south eastern stack.

10aa4.jpg

This earned us a GG - I decided to attach him to our highest propmoted Rifle, unlocking the Heroic Epic.

11zh8.jpg

There was a constant instream of small stacks, and I had some horrible RNG rolls...

12ae0.jpg

Yeah, great. Now we can face Brennus all on our own. Thanks for nothing !

13hz5.jpg

The situation at the end of my turn. I've turtled in Moscow as we didn't have the strength to tackle the enemy in the field. I drafted 3 Rifles, but the next player should go back to Bureaucracy - we have the HE now in it anyway. As of now we should hold, but I don't know what comes yet.

14rz1.jpg

Especially this graph doesn't altogether encourage optimistic views...

15wp4.jpg

As you see I've done my best - good luck to the next player !

War trumpets....it was inevitable :(

Can we hold a Emperor AI in a OCC with our bare hands and still tech to space? I have my doubts....

It looks that no one wants to help us in our righteous crusade against the monster and that the guy thinks it with the upper hand, so most likely he won't think on negotiations before we raze a city or two. So the war must continue...

We should change to Beauro ASAP and continue the war.

:woohoo: ... war! Brennus is now finally tired of our bad jokes.

We could definitely hold our own, the problem is the pillaging -- we would dwindle down to size 3 in no time. Check for peace.

I would have also settled the engineer immediately at declaration of war ... that changes everything, you know. Biology is also off the list after Physics. Consider going after Artillery or AssLine. AssLine is tad too long -- requiring Economy, Corporation and Steam Power, though some of these can be traded for once we have Physics.

After revolt back to Bureaucracy, consider hiring back some scientists. We can't win this war with units. We must continue to pour beakers into research.

Hey, Imhotep! This joke isn't bad at all!
The really bad joke in your post was the declaration of Brennus! You gotta be kidding, right? What? You aren't? Oh.... :hide:

Good call on the attach to unlock HE. I would have thought about settling the GG, but this was better. The next one, should we have one, should construct a military academy, IMO.

Actually, I'm glad we survived. I thought we couldn't if someone horned his trumpets of war against us, but we have rifling. This should leave us safe at our fort until we get dogpiled, don't you think?
Speaking of which.. Well, shyuhe certainly is more skilled than myself in this regard, but we have to make somebody declare on Hannibal. If we don't, he will come at us sometime...

Good luck, guys!

oof. That was quite a busy MM set. Let me see if I can make sense of my notes now

To start with, the joke:

How do you kill a circus?

Spoiler :
go for the juggler

I reassigned some of the tiles to maximize production and/or to maximize growth during my set. I swapped out of nationhood 2 turns into the set and went back to bureaucracy and free market (new tech!). And I beat back the invaders and got Brennus involved in a four front war  Stupid Celt needs to suffer

I started the set by beating back the invaders. That wasn't too bad given the troops I inherited. I didn't worry about Hannibal's hands because he can't invade us unless he goes around the world through Brennus to attack us (no OB with either Asoka or Hatty). Physics is discovered in 1640. I immediately traded it + 430 gold to Asoka for Steam power and war with Brennus. We now have a friend :) I also traded physics for constitution + economics + world map + 10 gold with Washington. Hatty will probably gift him most of her techs anyways so we might as well get the most out of it.

Next turn, Hannibal strikes.... Asoka! I first set up a gem --> 11 gpt trade with Hatty. Then I bribed off Hannibal by giving him astronomy, steam power, world map and 20 gold. We can't afford to have Hannibal crush Asoka by sandwiching the poor guy. I then took steam power and traded it for MT + world map + 10 gold + adopt free market with Washington. I finished the turn by bribing Hannibal after Wang instead by giving him physics. Hannibal doesn't have a direct land route to Wang so I'm hoping he'll fail on a naval assault. Considering Hannibal's power graph, I wasn't comfortable leaving him alone since he'll probably just go after Asoka again. I got a lot of cash from this (around 1000). I also convinced Hannibal to adopt free market as part of the deal.

I started spamming cossacks after this. But I make a :smoke: move as I forgot to build the stables first. But it's ok - Brennus' troops are busy pillaging the junk that's outside of our bfc to the east. IN 1655, Asoka proposes a trade giving us corp + 130 for MT. I agreed since we'll need it for assembly line eventually. I also bribed Hatty on Brennus for 1020 gold. Money buys friends  I then set up a sugar --> 5gpt trade with Wang, although this is probably something we'll want to cut eventually... Wang's territory has been wrecked by Brennus so I'm hoping it'll help him recover faster.

At the end of my set, Hannibal comes asking us to dow on Wang. I thought about going with it for a bit but we're having a hard enough time trying to get Brennus off of our back and I doubt Wang will feel any better about giving us peace so I decline. Unfortunately, that pushes Hannibal back into cautious. He's now in free market though so we should get shared civic bonuses that will put him back into pleased. Then, Asoka, Hatty, and Hannibal will all be pleased with us and Brennus should be occcupied by his 4 front war. Hatty has artillery now (we're 7 turns away) so she will probably start taking some of Brennus' territory. Wang has democracy and communism (and DR but who counts that) on us but I'm worried that he won't recover from the economic hole that he's in from the pillaging. So as long as we can deal with Brennus and keep a check on Hatty's teching, I think we have a good shot at this game still. We also have coal in our territory (next player please finish the mine on it - it should give the capitol a +1 hammer bonus).

And the current state of diplomatic relations:

And all this for just a measely 10 turns! Feel free to whip me for any mistakes I may have made :whipped:

OH and I almost forgot. I settled the GE and also settled a GG that we got during our set (that great wall is doing us wonders).

Awesome turnset, Shyuhe!

At least from a "lurker" point of view, as I have no game access now. :mischief:

Talking about it, it should be tomorrow night before I can get it. Rolo, if you can play today, feel free to!

We have coal! :woohoo:
So now what? Assembly Line ASAP?

I'm with a enormous headache ( courtesy of manually sorting thousands of letters ( post office at his best  ) ), so I'll wait for your wise moves, FB :p

P.S We are getting even better in the business of telling bad jokes

Ah, it seems my preparations were quite good. Glad to hear this :D . I agree, you achieved much for 10 turns. I expected diplomacy to open up again once we had a new tech for bribing, but I didn't expect us throwing the world all into war mode. Very well done ! And yes, let's go for Assembly Line and after that towards Biology and the Space Techs !

Imhotep

I think biology is better before assembly line. It's not a high priority AI tech and it'll improve our growth ability. Extra production will not help as much as extra specialists.

A word of caution on the world war - we may have to bribe off either Asoka or Hatty from Brennus before they do too much damage since we can't let them cripple him yet. We need Brennus and Hannibal as war targets in the late game as well so we can't let them fall off the map yet.
