I just found an article in my newpaper reviewing a game called America's Army. It seems to have quite alright graphics, and it has been made as propaganda for the US Army. Therefore it's also FREE! I haven't downloaded and checked it out yet, but I will.

What do you think?

This is the link for the game's official website

and this is for downloading it :

MODS: THIS IS NOT ILLEGAL, IT IS FREEWARE.

This is a screenshot from it

This is a wonderful example of both "what makes America great" and "silly things that the military does to keep busy during peacetime".

I'm not much into first-person shooter games, but I quite approve of the concept.

Been hearing about it, I'm going to DL it! :goodjob:

If it fulfills its purpose, increasing recruitment, what's silly about it? :) It IS a rather...new method of trying to increase recruitment, I'll give it that, but if it works is it really silly? :) I'm waiting for the official Air Force and Navy games to come along, now. :)

Probably cheaper than a commercial ad campaign anyhow. :yeah:

There were two reasons behind the development of this game:

1) it can help teach small-unit tactics, for squad leaders, and such,

2) it gives the non-military population something that's a fairly realistic depiction of the modern army, and therefore can be used as a recruitment tool

I knew that 360 billion dollars would turn up something ;)

How about a small country? I think it's a bit too much... 360 million is too much I think. Billion? Hell no. That's Israel's annual budget!

360 billion is Israel's annual budget?

I always thought it's somewhere around 100 billion max.

just checked. The budget is about $42.4b, where we only have $40 revenues.

I wonder where we get the extra 2 and a half billion dollars ;)

Same place the United States gets their extra 150 billion or whatever it is this year. Deficit spending.

I.. ahh... I ment in dog years :D

So making a computer game is 9 times more expansive than running a small country? :crazyeye: No to mention 3.6 times more expanive than invading Iraq. The the US govermet decided it prefers to create a computer game rather than invading Iraq, Syria, Iran and Lebanon (had 600 million USD left).

"Let's see... eliminating evil in the world or making a computer game?" :king:

Poor me and my 56k modem. I can run the game, but I can't go past the trainings as it only allows multi player. And the training also had a wierd bug. I'm supposed to learn to use different weapons, but I didn't understand my orders so I went up a staircase, and the game announced me I completed the stage with perfect results!

maybe it´s worth a try

Oh, I dunno. The Air Force already has advertisements during episodes of Stargate: SG-1 so shouldn't that be enough?

;)

i´m glad the swedish army doesn´t put money on this kind of things, but on the other hand doesn´t they have problems with recruiting people.

What an inneffective way to recruit people... Force the bastards to fight! Tell them if they fight they might get shot and if they won't they'll always be shot. This should create a fairly wide choice for the army to pick the best soldiers :D
