I just found a great new Spike pic I want to use. Ends up my Jasc free trial is over and my Photoshop free trial has dissappeared off my HD...guess its done with then. ;)

So what are some other good free trial photo editors online? I have some weird one from when I first installed the computer (Adobe PhotoDeluxe 2.0) but it only saves in its own, weird, special format that isn't supported by the site.

So where can I get something that I can crop pictures with?

Oh well. Found this site called vicman.net, lets see how it does.

Basically I just want something that can crop, which Paint laughably doesn't have! :ack:

EDIT: Vicman's sucked. Apparently there were problems with cropping...lets hope Gimp works! :)

Oh it will work, and it's actually quite powerful... A bit hard to learn though, but if you use it on a regular basis, you become addicted. :mischief: Oh, and make sure to grab the gif plugin too (only if you are in a country that is not included in the unisys license (I don't want to get sued :mischief: )) because otherwise you won't be able to save gifs...

Good luck :)

I dont usually post in this forum, but this is something I have tried.

GIMP is a very good tool, and I use it for diagrams in the Civ3 demogame. It has a useful crop feature.

Go to the windows GIMP site mentioned above, and download the GTK installer, and run it. Then download the GIMP installer, and run that. Sounds simple but it took me days to figure out what to do, and where to find the files.

I think I still have the install files, if you cant find them.

The GIMP even inspired me to dual boot windows and linux. Being originally made for linux, the GIMP is geared for linux geeks, and can be a learning curve to those who don't know linux well (e.g. me)

The only problem being the original gtk theme, which is, I must say, really ugly and not eye friendly... I never tried to change it on windows, but since the gtk install creates a few directories I think it is possible to do so...

Downloading now, thanks for the tip. Got to try something newer than the 6.x I have at work (legal of course).

Are you trying to discard everything but the selection or hide it for some kind of animation? I use photoshop for some things but if I just want to cut an image down Paint is fine.

In Paint select the area you want to keep and select "Copy to..." from the edit menu. Type in a filename and you're done. One cropped image created in seconds.

Same here, I don't what he meant by it not having cropping. Although it does not have a built in feature to make it more precise it has adequate resources to crop if you just need to chop something up a bit.

Although it's lack of support for lots of image type really sucks :p
