wow that is slow. You should have done the norton since any virus that can do what this (maybe virus) is doing should show up in norton

He already stated that Norton was picking up viruses but couldn't remove them.

There are many instances when one virus scanner can pick up things that are missed in another one. I have to use the Trend Micro one quite regularly at work (unfortunately), and it's usually very good at picking up things that our POS McAfee misses.

If you're fairly certain that you've got a virus, you should always scan with at least 2 different progs to be sure that it's been cleaned.

i talked to my dad and he says it can be, in rare instances a hardware problem. he had something like this at work. What happens is the reuest for the program gets denied but not sent back so the computer shuts itself in an endless cycle

The fact that this is limited to a specific type of program (installers) almost immediately flags it as a virus, which I did overlook when I first read it.

The only other instance I've seen of a problem like this was once when the MS installer which runs almost all install programs had become corrupt. In that case you're basically SOL.

The Trend Micro scan will tell you what the infections are after it completes.

sorry, didnt see that. Anyways, tell us what the infections are when youre done.

Thats not right. He has problems running games and stuff too.

Hrm, ok, I missed that.

Makes it even more obviously a virus to me then. Since he's picking mainly executables that you installed or want to run.

Obviously he's not hitting all .exe's, or matte wouldn't be posting here, or have windows running ;)

Okay the scan is done.

It says there are 4 viruses and 1 trojan/worm. Sorry of these are a touch big.

Here's the Viruses.

vs2.jpg

And here's the Trojan/Worm.

vs3.jpg

Now what?

click the next button and go to recover... i'll google those virus to see if they are the problem

Hit next and choose the option to delete/clean everything... then reboot and run the scan again.

wow, um the first virus is a keystroke thief, the second i havent heard of, neither the third or fourth. try using hijakthis to see if they show up. check here if you cant find it-http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html

but use hijackthis after you reboot.

x post

the
2nd one is spywear
3rd is a macrovirus
4th is adware

Okay I tried to delete the viruses and I think it was mostly sucessful. Unfortunately my computer froze again. So before I restarted it I wrote down what i could see on the screen.

Viruses:

1. deleted
2. undeletable
3. unaccessible
4. deleted.

And from what I could see the Trojan/Worm had been deleted too but I was unable to see the deatils. I'll run the scan again, it will probably take about an hour or so I guess.

Now bloody Norton is screwing up a pop-up keeps coming up every few seconds. Really annoying!

Okay I've been out for a few hours and I'm about to out again in a few mins so I'll make this quick.

I've done another scan and there was only 1 virus found. The TSPY SMALL.SN one.

What should I do now?

manual delete the virus. You can google the name and there should be a lot of places that tell you how to get rid of it. Also, did you try hijackthis?

Apparently my computer is now completely clear of all viruses, worms, trojans, spyware, adware and dialers. Or at least that's what the online scan told me. But it still freezes.

I've downloaded Hijackthis. But how do I use it? I did a scan and a whole bunch of stuff came up but I'm not sure what it is or what I'm suppose to do with it.

Copy and paste all the stuff from the Hijackthis scan here so we can spy on your computer
