no matter how much "commerce" I allocate to science, from 1 to 35 so far, it always takes 32 turns to research everything, the only time the research period ever changes is when zero is allocated to research, and then a blank appears in the countdown box

Quote:
32 is the max number of turns you can take to research something. So no matter how much or little you allocate to science, if it will take more than 32 turns at that allocation, your adviser will tell you 32 turns (and you'll get it that fast). The moral: If all your techs will take you 32 turns, research the most expensive one because that way the 32 turn cap will give you the most "free" science.

I would add to this a question about "Specialists" in cities. If you make a few scientists in some of your cities, will this speed up the research process? I know points are determined by the number of citizens, and specialists are taken into account. I don't think I saw anything in the manual about it, but do the number of specialists in science improve research capability. Same thing with tax collectors, does having them increase your ability or the amount of taxes you collect from the city in which the specialist lives?

Find the directory with the saved games and just delete them :)
On my system (using default install location) this directory is:

C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Saves\

Two ?'s.....

Are there plans, maybe for the MP version, to allow you to:

Zoom all the way out??? WTF happened to the zoom function? What possible reason was there to limit us to two views? Other than that it was quicker and easier?

As has been mentioned numerous times, but the more it's mentioned, the more likely it is that Firaxis will do it right next time, but I WANT TO BE ABLE TO MOVE MY ENTIRE STACK OF UNITS AT ONE TIME!!!!!!!!!

Oh, yeah, Duffman is thrusting toward the source of the problem!

Ive just started with the civ3mod for the first time. When a save a get the file "something.bic". How do I use the new rules in a game?

Put something.bic in your scenario folder. Enter the game. Choose load scenario. Choose something.bic. There you have it"" :goodjob:

Have any of you read the damn manual? 80% of these questions are in the manual. Thats the problem with most gamers-they just jump right in without reading--do us all a favor and read the damn book-thats why they made it!!!!!

If they had at least put a FAQ inside the manual, I think people should read this FAQ. However, to require that everybody that wants to play a game (for fun not fanaticism) read the manual to find hidden information inside a bunch of useless text, it's just unacceptable. So, if civfanatics FAQ helps you, great you don't have to read hundreds of pages. Lucky you.

Note: I read the manual. It was boring having to read a bunch of known stuff to finally get to something I didn't knew. Anyway, I reccomend the shortcut pages at the end of the manual as it can keep most people from reposting Qs.

Hey Ppl!

I got A 64 Sdram Pc, and Civ 3 is so terrebly slow!
I can eat my breakfast while waiting a turn!

I hate It!!!!
does anyone now how to Improve the speed?

Turn of all the anumations will speed it up a lot, i did that late in my game and it was weird, you blink and all the turns are finished already.

I've done that , I turned all the animations off, It helped quete a bit but now i am futher in the game with alot of workers and 167 millitary units!
when I do my turn First I see every worker moving
and then the Enemy units!
It takes allmost 5 mins to do 1 f**king turn

If you want to speed up the game add more RAM to your 64 megs. I have 1 gig of RD ram and it is smooth as glass.

I understand that once you have created an army you cannot "unload" units but I cant "load" units to begin with. When an army and an infantry occupy the same square there is no option at the bottom to "load" the army. Even when you right click there is no option to "load" it. Whats up with that?

You have to be in a city to be able to load units in an army

Does anyone know where to find the type of government an opposing civ has currently? Even better, it would be nice to know when the opposing civ is changing government so that you could lay a hurtin' on them when they can't fight back.

You're not actually loading the army, you're loading the unit into the army. The 'load' option will show up for the combat unit, not the army itself.

Answer in response to 'disco's question:

Provided you have an embassy with the AI civ you are interested in, you can easily get the info you need. Go to your military advisor screen. There are two "columns" that dominate the lower 2/3 portion of the screen. On the left is a total (either by city or by unit) of your available military forces. On the right, there are blank columns (at least until espionage) but at the top, there is a rectangular box that says something like: "Army of the "Nation" "Government"" Ex: Army of the Chinese Democracy.

If you want info on another gov't, right-click on this box and other available civs will pop up. Spies will give you more detailed information, but embassies will give you a "relative" measure of your military strength versuses theirs. Take your advisor's warning about your comparative military strength with a grain of salt. It seldom reflects the "true" situation, especially if you have a technological edge.

Hope this helps
