"Enabling Smoothed Screen Fonts: To enable Font Smoothing, open the Display Control panel, select the Effects tab, and check 'Smooth edges of screen fonts'."

Where is the Display Control Panel???

I dont even know where to look (In Civ3 presumably;) ) and I am slowly going mad.

This is not a game option, but rather a Windows option that can be accessed through the control panel (or right-click on your desktop and select Properties).

I was playing a Chieftain level game where I never had the Great Library presented as a build option. No other Civs had built it (no one else had Literature). I already entered the Medieval Age before I discovered Literature, and I may have discovered Education before -- I can't remember. Do you lose the opportunity to build Wonders if you leave the Age or discover the canceling tech before you start building? Is this in the manual?

k, gotta a few questions.

What does 'we love the day' do?

Why the **** do my spys always get caught? (I can't get a spy in to the civilistaion, they always get caught and killed :(

HOW DO I TURN THE *&#$ CITY GOVERNORS OFF?

Thank you.

I believe you can turn it off by right clicking the city and choosing Contact the Governor, from there you can set off all the governors activity and apply it to all cities. Zooming to the city and managing the moods of your citizen will prompt you to turn off the Governor.

I usually finish my games before I can really get into espionage but to increase the efficency of planting spys you could change to communism but a better way would be just to wait until the next turn and try again. Also, when I have tried planting spies I have found that if there are 2 civs, I tried planting in one civ, failed, then tried planting in the other civ and sucess!!!

How come sometimes I can't upgrade units? I have the resources required and enough money and the city isn't in disorder or resistence.

WLTKD under Republic/Democracy increases the food output of that city by between 10 and 20% (find a large city having one, count the food coming in from the map and see how much is actually going in to the food bars)

Problem is that when the food excess is eliminated the city loses this bonus and you get a massive food deficit and lose all the extra population until you are only getting what the land is giving you anyway. Kinda pointless huh?....

As for reducing corruption I cant say as I've noticed WLTKD making any difference. Just mod the rules for optimum city sizes to 1000 as I have done. I'm not alone in thinking this has to be done for a decent game. In fact I reckon I'm in the majority. When will Firaxis listen? :~(

Can you change the colour of your civ without making a map in the editor and changing the rules? I love playing france, but hate the pink, and when I do that, I cant help but to make sure that Paris will have access to both coal and iron (I LOVE iron works)

it doesn't seem to be in preferences, but I could just be missing it.

Thanks for the FAQ it was certainly helpful.

Also, you may want to add how many actual turns are in the game (not just when it ends) I know it was posted somewhere else as well, but hey, this is a FAQ.

Heya anybody who can help,

I had to uninstall/reinstall civ3 (um cuz of too much tinkering without backups, (yeah I know)) and I can't remember how to turn off the automatic move thing. I did the preference screen, turned everything off, turned everything on, but I still bounce all around the screen with my automated explorers/units on Go-to...any help is good help at this point.

It means that you have an embassy with that civ.

Are you sure. I know I had an embassie with the Indian. They had the yellow dot, however the Greek had it to while I did not establish an embassy with them.
Could those mean that you have an active traderoute with them. That I did have with both of them?

Maybe they established one with you and you didn't notice? That's just as good as you establshing one with them. Better, cause you dont spend the cash.

Yup, like Numnug said - they set up an embassy with you. The only difference is you don't pay but you don't get to peek at their capital when the embassy is set up.

The "we love the leader day" means that work should be done faster or corruption is lower. Something like that.

Building the petagon and comunism helps improve your spies.

greets to all..

I'm kinda new at this wonderful place, which i have found much help for this great game. It sees that only the first time i establish an embassy i have the option to spy the other civ's capital. Probably there is a way to do it again, but i havn't find out how to, yet.. Anyone could help?

Thx a lot

Need help regarding upgrading the units. I have read the FAQ's and have followed the shift + U, but it does not work. I have built the Leonardo's Workshop which used to upgrade units automatically in Civ 2, but even then it does not do it. the obly way I can do it is to go to each indivudaul cities, and then right click on the units and then try to upgrade them. It becomes difficult and tedious to do this when you have 20 cities.

If any one can tell me a way to upgrade units automatically, I would really appreciate it. Thanks,
.:( :(

pressing shift+u instead of u will upgrade all units with that same type in the city where there is a barracks, and if you have the right strategic resource, e.g. you can only upgrade spearmen to pike men when you have iron and the spearmen is in the city that has a barracks.
