Does anybody know if it's possible to win by diplomatic victory even if you're at war?

I was playing a peaceful game shoting for a diplo victory, when World War exploded and now I'm fighting my two neighbors.
Anyway I think I can still be the first one to build the UN, but I wonder if its going to be of any good.

Thanks guys!

does anyone know what happens when you mobilize for war under the domestic advisor's menu?

You can only produce military buildings and units, and every tile that already produce atleast one shield, produce an extra shield.

Sp, that means you can get 21 extra shields in city with 20 citizens, all of them working, and you already get one shield on every tile... (I don't know if the railroad boost this shields any more, but if it does, you can get an awdul lot of extra shields...)

EDIT (OFF-Topic): Number of views to this thread! 44446!!!

How do i establish an embassy? I didn't bother to make any when discovered writing so how do i do it now?
When i double click nothing happens.

You win a diplomatic victory when you get a majority of votes for you. The only way war factors into the equation is that people you're at war with are pretty unlikely to vote for you. The flip side is that waring AI civs won't vote for each other. So yes, you can win a diplomatic victory even if you're at war. In fact, lining up MPPs and triggering them against your opponent via war is probably the easiest way to win a diplomatic victory.

Interesting .I was going about it as in Civ2 not to make alliances which drag you into war and in Civ3 it seems that MPP are the way to go? What do you do when one of your allies gets into a war?

Personally I don't go for MPP very often precisely because you tend to get dragged into wars. It's easy enough to get help against an agressor after he attacks and the AI doesn't seem to give a lot of wieght to MPP's anyway so there's no real advantage to having them for defensive purposes. For the reverse, you can always declare war on your own if you want to help somebody out and the diplomatic penalties are the same if you do it on your own initiative or because you are forced to through a MPP.

I'd like to see a Mutual Defense Pact where you don't have to help your ally if they are the agressor in a conflict. A full alliance option would also be nice.

You get to war, if the allies are the ones that are attacked I believe.

As soon as your ally's unit, city or improvement is attacked, you are forced to declare war. Doesn't matter if your ally was the one who declared war in the first place.

Anyone know how to get that? I seem to read a thread about that, but can't find it.

howdy y'all,

i have a HUGE map based on a bic with the "optimum cities" set to 1000 for huge maps.

i have [i think] 40 cities and still cannot build the forbidden palace.

the manual says the FP requires 8 cities on a standard map. the default BIC shows 16 for the "optimum cities" for a standard map.

does that mean the FP city count requirement is 1/2 the "optimum cities" number?

waiting eagerly for some help ... [*grin*]

take care,
lee

Heya Lee,

I dunno what the cut off is for the optium number of cities is to be able to build the f-pallace. I've seen the same trouble using less than a 1000 cities for the corruption, trouble is the wrong word, we'll call it noteworthy happening :). Though with a higher corruption/city ratio set there is very little need for the forbidden palace.at least in the experimental games I've played.

Also I think there is a cut off of 512 cities in the world, so if it is half, with the ratio set at a 1000, you'll never (unlikely) see it built. I'm glad someone else is playing with the corruption tab I wuz feelin' all by my lonesome *G*.

Omega, here is a guide that I made for another user on how to take screenshots for Civ3. It assumes that you know some basic windows functions. If you need further help feel free to PM me.

micmc_atl_ga, I to was messing around with the corruption modifiers as I hate the way the game handles corruption. I haven't gotten very far with it yet, but if you find a way to turn it off please tell me! :)

heya Pale,

Like Lee said a few posts back just turn the corruption vrs # of cities on the World Size screen up to like 100-1000, (whatever is max) and that should let you make huge empires with very little corruption even out to the furthest reach....you'll get some depending on governement etc, but it at least won't be the 1 shield cities out in the sticks.

this is assuming you got the patch, hope it helps....makes doing huge maps more fun...if you aren't a city razer.

Help.

A couple of things I've never been able to do

1. Plant a spy. I have the Intelligence agency, what do I do next? If I try Espionage it only gives me the steal tech and investigate city. Doh.

2. Launch spaceship. I have built the thing but am unable to launch it. Doh squared.

SOme advice - don't bother to try the diplo victory if you have 3 civs left and they all have 25% of territory or more. Each one will vote for itself! I THINK the problem should not occur with 4 or more. And if you get down to 2 civs then you cannot win this way at all as both civs will be candidates and will vote for themselves (unless you sportingly decide to vote for the other one!).
