Freshwater Lakes

I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature:

In the attached game, Cahir Abbey is adjacent to a fresh water lake. If I put my mouse over the lake, it says 'coast', with 3 food (I got the turtle event last turn) and 2 gold. However, I can't work the square.

I went back and checked, the turtle event doesn't have anything to do with it, I can't work the square from before the event.

My guess that it is a bug? After all, we can work ocean, we should be able to work a fresh water lake.(?)

I don't think you can work a water square unless the city is itself coastal (i.e. adjacent). I didn't take a look at the save, but if that isn't the issue, I can.

I just checked the save and everything seems to be in order. You haven't researched fishing yet, so you can't work water tiles. Working the lake after the discovery of fishing worked fine.

A city does not need to be next to a water tile to work water tiles in its BFC.

Ahh, of course! I got the favorable event and wanted to work the tile, and I forgot 'the basics'.

I do that all the time in this game. An advanced strategy for me is remembering all the basics.
