Frida Kahlo as curveball leader for Mexico

I think that if for some reason they don't go with the beyond obvious leaders for Greece (including Pericles and Alexander), Plato/Aristotle would definitely be good choices. They both were involved in politics, and to some degree close to the center of power of their states (Athens and Macedonia). If we go with lesser figures (lesser only in context, of course), Demosthenes and Xenophon could also work.
What would make zero sense, on the other hand, would be Socrates.
I won't hide that my impression of CivVII's team that makes such decisions is already the opposite of positive.

On a serious note, I'm rooting for Lord Byron. One of the very few poets who backed up their words with their deeds. And from what I've read, he showed considerable leadership during his last days in Greece
If only his mediocre poetry were as sensational as his biography. :mischief:

Greece has to be Diogenes.

My guess would be Benito Juárez if they include a Mexican leader. Maybes Santa Anna if they want to go with the most name recognition.

Given this would be Mexico's first time in the game, I think they'll be relatively safe in their leader choices for Mexico. I think their 'left field' leader choices are going to be associated with mainstays or maybe not directly associated with any civ.

It was the first thought in my mind when I heard that Mexico was in the game but what would be the safe/traditional choice for Mexico?

I'm still waiting for the left field choices. :(

Pretty sure all of those are unique Great People for them, besides Demosthenes. I'm expecting Alexander to show up in the Crossroads of the World DLC.

I think you can consider Machiavelli, Trung Trac and Amina as left field choices, despite them being well-known and wished for on these forums.

Civ 6 had how many left field choices in the base game? Gorgo, Catherine, Mvemba, and Tomyris? I think 7 can beat this.
I don't agree that Trung Trac is left field; I considered her mildly surprising. I do agree about Machiavelli (even though I lowkey expected him at some point) and Amina. Still, I don't consider any of Civ7's choices so far as interesting as CdM, Hojo Tokimune, or Tomyris.

Please Firaxis, when the Aztecs finally get their leader, pick a leader who is not called Monty. Show some creativity and give us Nezahualcoyotl!

Yes!!! I really want to see him quoting some poetry when you are on his good side or telling you how your skull would look nice on a Tzompantli when you are on his bad side.

About cantidates IF we get a Mexican leader, Juarez would absolutely be my first choice if we were on the old leader system requirements, however, dropping the "ruler" requisite, my "oddball" choices would be Emiliano Zapata, that way you get a strikingly Mexican looking leader that doesn't overlap with other civs and also represents the Mexican revolution, which I would argue is what most people would recognize about Mexico.

I remain wholly unconvinced that there ever was a requirement that leaders be rulers. They tended to be because rulers tend to be the historical figures most associated with nations, but viewing it as a "requirement" that leaders be rullers always felt like fannish overreach.

Pretty sure when you get right down to it, the main requirements for who get to be a leaders are and have always been "dev think this person's cool", '"PR doersn't think having them is really uncool", and "Legal doesn't think having them is really uncool". Prior to Civ VII there was probably something like "reasonably important in their civ's history", but that one probably went out the window when they decided to stop tying civs to leaders.

Nader Shah for Persia was very unexpected
If only because it was the first and so far only time Firaxis showed any awareness that there is more to Persian history than the Achaemenid period.

If we're talking about collaborations, I believe some Mortal Kombat characters would look fantastic on Civ7 diplomatic screen
Or just go all in with Nintendo.

Mario (likes civ that jump to new tech/civics without going for any masteries)

Donkey Kong (likes civs with jungle tiles and bananas)

Link (dislikes civs that build Dungeons)
