Frigates out of amminution?

Looks like frigrates are out of amminution after shooting for some turns.
When attacking a city at the cost for some turns using frigates, they suddenly didn't show the fire-icon anymore. Does that mean the frigate should reload, and if so, how do I reload amminution?

No. This means you've bombarded the citys culture defense down to zero, and cannot bombard it further.

So if I move on to another city I can bombard again?
Or when culture grows again in the same city?

Is this limitation only the case with this navy-unit or is it typical for all navy units, only to bring the city-culture-defense down to zero?

yep.

Only frigate, destroyer and battleship (possibly ironclads too, but I never build them) can bombard. It's the same as catapult/artillery. Only against city defense, not against units.

Looks like I mis-interpreted the description 'can bombard city-defences' when reading the description of this unit.
I thought that this would destroy the whole city.
So that was not the case, because their were still units in the city, which needed to be killed.....

City defenses only refers to the bonus defense units get from the culture and buildings. Bombardment (and collateral damage) cannot kill any units at all. Collateral damage can weaken units, but won't ever kill them or red-line them.

Can sea units even damage land units with collateral damage upgrade ? I upgraded one of my battleships with collateral upgrade and it only damaged stacked sea units.

In Civ4 no sea unit can attack a land unit - so you also can't do collateral damage to any units stacked with a land unit.
