I have just downloaded Alcohol 120%..

Its only a 15 day trial.

Are there full versions, or alternatives out there that are permanent virtual drives?

Thankyou

Yes, you pay for it...

I don't understand your question.

I know you are just trying to be difficult since my title made it pretty clear. Perhaps there are free versions out there?

thankyou GVBN. The free version of 52 is indefinite :D

Daemon Tools is all you need to mount cd images.

Does it work for Vista?

Yes, it does. It bounces back and forth between the desktop occasionally, but only for a second or so when the games loading.

Do we have open source alternatives?

Anyway, using virtual mounter is a sign of using pirated software.

I hate the comment. Its the same type of comment as "torrents are for pirating."

No, torrents are not for pirating, they're for torrenting. Whether or not torrenting means pirating is a different story.

For all you know I'm anal about keeping my disks in impeccable condition and made a backup of every single one. Hard drive space is cheap, so for speed I store them on my computer. Now I have a perfectly legitimate reason for using virtual drive software.

Now if you said that it is often a sign of being a dirty pirate, I'd agree with you.

You can use torrents to download Linux distros, or virtual mounting so you don't have to wear out your CD drive by opening and closing it.

Yes Aimee, thank you for saying pretty much exactly what I just had. Your post was extremely original and informative.

Well you just said that "torrenting is torrenting" so I thought up a legitimate use for "torrenting"

there's dd to copy.
cdrecord and growisofs to burn.
and mount.
all free the source code too.
don't ask if they work in vista.

one of the mods here (RoM) is 1GB for one version, so it would be a PITA to download from a regular site, but the modder in his infinite wisdom put it on torrent, so the download only took 10 minutes!

Exactly what I meant. There are a ton of good uses for torrents.

I know Company of Heroes uses a torrent client to distribute their patches now, and I believe WoW uses an implementation of BitTorrent.

Yes, and DDO uses torrent stuff to install the game faster (like 8GB)
