Well, my MP online stopped working so I am forced to play SP civ. I got bored with the same old civs in PTW so I decided I would hit the editor and mix things up.
I downloaded a 220x220 (I think) world map. Pretty big. I put 24 starting locations on the map. I scattered them evenly and logically, with the idea to edit extinct civs into modern day ones. Example: I took the Iroquois and tweaked them: renaming them canada, renaming the leader, cities, and UU, to the "Mountie". I took the Celts (Brazil) and Mongols (Chile), renaming the Gallic Swordsman to the Brazilian Gaucho and the Keshik to the Chilean Mountain Cowboy. Also renamed the leaders, etc. Took the Aztecs and renamed them Mexio, leaving everything else the same.
I tweaked the USA's Unique Unit, because it is so crappy. I removed the F-15 and Marine (for US) and created the Rainbow 6 Unique Unit. For those of you who don't know, Rainbow 6 is an elite anti-terrorism group created by writer Tom Clancy. F-15 is just horrible so I couldn't help myself.
Other tweaks I am proud of include tweaking the Vikings, renaming them Switzerland and giving them a spot up in Northern Europe, hoping they will control the Netherlands as well. I took the beserk and removed it, creating a new UU, the Swiss Guard, with the Num. Merc as its animation. I wanted this to be strictly defensive unit, as that is how it is used in real life (Good ol' Switzerland, doesn't mess with anyone), and made it something along the lines of 1/7, or something like that. I also increased shield costs to compensate for the high defense figure. The pope can rest easy
.
Rome, Germany, Spain, France, Russia, China, Japan, Korea, Egypt, Persia (like the immortal too much!), India, all where they belong.
I tweaked Babylon to South Africa and stuck them near the Zulu, who I left standard.
I took Carthage and tweaked them to be the Austrailians, so someone inhabited the island. I also changed Arabia to Iraq and thought about tweaking their UU to be a beefed up Guerilla, but decided the knight UU would be best or they would be wiped out by the other early UU civs nearby.
I also tweaked some characteristics of some civilizations. For example, I made Switzerland as low as possible on agression and put "land defense" as construction priority #1. Stuff like that.
As far as the game goes, I haven't played too much of it, I took USA because I never really used them before (F-15 sucks, again
), and the game is unfolding very realistically. I am hoping to avoid war an dbe peaceful, partially because being peaceful is horribly difficult against the computer and also because I'm behind the curve if you will.
The American civs (5) are progressing MUCH more slowly than the European civs, since there are so many of them. Rome is getting ganged up on in Europe, but is holding it's own. Once again, it is possible Rome could see the fall of it's empire. Russia and China are predictably the largest civs, etc. Russia, China, and India are currently leading the pack, but it is close at the top. After about 8 civs, there is a large dropoff, to where the US and the other American civs lie, then everyone else filters in.
Anyway, I was just so excited about breathing new life into single player civ that I had to share. If anyone has any questions about how I made changes or wants more details on something, I'd be more than happy to share. But more than that I figured this thread would give someone an idea to customize SP civ to make it just a little more personalized and "new".
