This is too much powerful.
It should be a 60% rate.
At 80% (like republic), extra money, no army support, no unhappiness ... paying half the science when having a few SSC is very cheap: +1500 gold/turn, 3 turns for science.
switch to that after the discovery of Armor, crush the world for peanuts and toggle back to democratie full of money for the end of the game.

This is what gives Civ2 is replay value. The game has so many options and possibilities that everyone can find what they want in the game! Sure, Fundy gives you a big war-fighting boost, but you don't have to use that gov type if you don't want to. Try using "Power Democracy" to fight your wars. It is much more challenging than fundy. :D

When you're playing at the higher levels, especially Deity, Fundamentalism can be useful to survive those protracted wars or stabalize that vicious Anarchy cycle. I never use it unless I have to.

Yes, Fundy is a powerful government -- especially when one hears how well it can be used -- like getting a tech per turn (as I was doing in Game of the Month #25 towards the end). However, some of those same folks squeeze five or six techs per turn out of Democracy -- their first choice. I’m only an average player -- I toggle back & forth.

Some of these folks like the micromanaging of everything, not me. Fundy is good because I don't have to check up on the cities all the time.

I must admit I thought I was half decent at this until coming on here. Just in awe of some of the exploits. But how is it possible to get 5 or 6 techs a turn? I thought you could only get one? Showing my newbie colours here!!!

Wow, I never got a tech per turn using fundy. Democracy, yes (all the time!). Of course, if I try now, I'll have to unlearn Civ3. :D

Well the trick is to exploit the trade bonus -- when a camel or truck arrives it yields an amount of coins AND beakers. Demanded products and especially high payoff demanded products are preferred. The bonus is greater over a large distance, greater over seas, and greater when conducted with a foreign civ.

To set up a tech per turn set up, a couple of other techniques are useful. One is to have a truly glorious city with a lot of trade arrows (say an SSC), another is to have a trade target (or targets) with a similar “lot of trade arrows”, say halfway around the world. To ship the goods, set up transports six or seven spaces away, so that the first transport’s move ends (“wake to cargo/sleep the cargo”), and then the second transport leaves…with the cargo. Repeat through the trip (aka the famous ship chain) and voila -- goods arrive, perhaps in the same turn they were made. Depending upon the size & state of development for the cities involved, the payoffs can be between a few hundred coins+ beakers to a few thou. So if it takes 3200 beakers for the next advance, four or five trucks per turn may do the trick.

If you’re delivering freight to a civ that you’re currently at war with, you might postpone a few targets in order to keep up the payoffs coming from the freight deliveries -- same as any other smuggler in the war zone. :D

You can if you have 100+ size 12+ cities with all improvements and trade routes.

Well I like Fundi and I think it isn't too unbalanced after all. When you switch to it after build up your army than you will face a decent research-hit. But after you conquered a few civs and took over their cities you can nullify the penalty.

However till you reach this goal you will be behind in science and you have to do the conquerer-thingy quickly to catch up again. I found this style of gaming very exiting and gives you the reward of being the most sophisticated civ when you eradicated all the others :king:

You certainly are;when you eradicate all the others!
