Is anyone else glad that they're getting rid of Fundamentalism in Civ3? I always thought it was way too unbalanced. Which is why I *always* used it

Speaking of things I always take advantage in Civ2

I also wish railroads would have some movement penalty. One tactic I use extensively is moving my Artillery right up to a city connected by rail, attack once, and then withdraw to complete safety. I've taken over whole continents with that method without losing a single unit.

I agree on both points. Fundamentalism is too damned easy; I don't think they need to get rid of it entirely, but they should impose greater restrictions on it. For example, instead penalizing science, they could penalize trade, which would effect income as well as science. Fundamentalist governments haven't really been known for the pursuit of material wealth.

As for railroads, instead of unlimited movement, movement should be 1/10 or 1/15 of an MP; and but 1/3 of an MP in the presence of enemy units (especially "ranged" weapons and aircraft capable of "interdiction).

Agreed Andu Indorin, perhaps Fundamentalism could be portrayed as the anti-democracy, where there is a LOSS of one trade arrow in every square that is already producing one?

Additionally, the regulation of railroads could have some bizarre side effects such as the comment: "Sire, our troops are tired and will only be able to fight at 11/15 strength if we attack now!"

Yes both fundamentalism and railroads are a little too easy in Civ2 and you will be glad to know that fundamentalism is being replaced by fascism in Civ3.

Unfortunately, they haven't released detailed information on how Fascism is going to work.
Also, there is no information on any changes on the railroad system as yet.

Keep your fingers crossed!

Is it? Where did you get this from? I thought the only new govt type was goig to be nationalism, which is a very different thing

Agree on Fundamentalism and railroads. Too easy to get tanks and artillery over entire content and attack same turn.

i think railroads should have like a 6-9 move max, because in real life evenentually they run out of steam and coal, maybe it could be linked w/ technoligical/resources like if it runs of coal it can go farther than steam, until you get fusion power and run a train unlimited off that. on fundementalism- nationalism is about the same thing, but hopefully itll be more balanced
