Acouple of snips from some recent games. This first one is justthe combination of the mine and pigs after I built a mine on a pig hill. Looks like I've built a bacon factory...

bacon mine.JPG

This second one is an actual graphics glitch somehow. I mined this hill, which results in the forest being chopped - I got the hammers for that - but afterwards, the program insists on drawing the forest there still!!

A huge Pangea map with 10 civs in total, and Catherine gets her first victim on her doorstep. Monty isn't going to have a good time.

Why'd u mine a pig?

not evry1 whipps and there are pop caps

I suspect the point is that after you have hit your happiness and/or health cap (i.e. growing your population further is futile and just results in unhappiness/unhealthiness) a tile that provides 2f/3h may (depending on your civics and the other available tiles) be far more useful than one that gives 5f.

More food than you can handle? ELABORATE! I just don't get it.

At higher dificulty levels, unhappiness becomes a serious problem early, and if you have a good food resource already, you either have to build lots of settlers or workers in that city to use that food, which is one good way of using it, or you have to use the whip hard and often, which is also good becuase it changes your excess food into hammers. Unfortunately overuse of the whip also leads to further unhappiness. If you don't do one of these things, you just get unhappy population which does nothing but cost you food and money. In this case I was better off mining the pig and getting nice hammers directly. I had reached happy limits anyway and had other food resources. Getting AH and pasturing the pig would have been a waste at that point.
