What's the point of those diplo modifiers anyway? I mean, why should the AI care about which social policies you chose?

I think it's good it shows the AI isn't "limited" to "theme policies" later on if another is more beneficial. It's a step in the right direction, showing the AI doesn't always "gimp" itself.

I agree somewhat, but the problem is then it's just a random thing instead of something you can strategize.

I just found it funny seeing Washington bash freedom, mainly.

I agree. I think if the leader's personality has been done right then he will have a predilection towards his real-life policy choices. Themes should be limited to aesthetics such as religions(not beliefs).

I found it humourus when my enemy washington chose autocracy and I went freedom. I think it's humourus because when look into the real historic past you find it humourus because they believed freedom so deeply and went to war to spread it and then in the game they chose something they hated so much in real life.

Wait until he wants to discuss the latest 5-year plan for the empire. I wonder what the friendly text for autocracy is.

Perhaps "We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."

He probably does lean toward freedom, but ideally he chose order based on the happenings of the game. In reality, he probably chose order out of randomness rather than his situation, just saying that in an ideal game, he wouldn't pick freedom every time.

Another slight issue is the game doesn't really give any reason for Freedom players to not like Order players (no bonuses or penalties are associated with it).

What is wrong with using order? Is your social policy choice done according to diplomacy?

"I trust that you are a friend to Liberty"

"The people of the United States of America welcomes you"

We're talking about Industrial era policies/governments and they've had an enormous influence at how one treated another. In the turbulent pre-WWII time it wasn't uncommon when people that favored a different party got either beaten up or killed and that counted for just about every country in for example Europe. Countries and parties which shared a similar ideology supported one another while trying to maintain or gain their power, whenever this was legal or illegal. Hatred was all around, and some of it still exists today. For example, just try to whisper the word 'socialism' to any American republican.

Just like types of government, naturally a democratic nation will be attracted to another democratic nation.

The AI in Civ 5 isn't designed to roleplay as real historic leaders. Otherwise, do you really think Washington would choose Order rather than Freedom?. Therefore, it's silly when decisions that don't affect the AI in the slightest have an effect on diplomacy. That's fake depth.
