Can you really do well not researching some early techs at all? Is this optimal for space race or something?

Sure, there are plenty of techs you don't need. If you have no camp resources, you only really need hunting if you need archers for some reason. That being said, due to prerequisites for techs you DO need, often you'll have to pick up the useless techs along the way. The biggest reason for skipping certain techs intentionally, though, is for bulbing strategies. I know skipping fishing leads to a different bulbing path, for instance.

Absolutely. In a very large majority of my games I never own archery...at all. Archery is a useless and dead-end tech. It’s prereq tech Humting, if not a starting tech, is something I may avoid for a very long time ... maybe all game - if there”s no pressing need for camp resources. One nice thing about no hunting is one can still build warriors with metal connected.

This has nothing to do with Space by the way.

Your perspective on this game will do a 180 once you actually try to learn how to play it.

Do I need Hunting to build Curraissers if my land portion has no need for that tech? :mischief: I think not - so, yes, can have 30 cities with 32 (2 extra for bureau capital) warriors and 30 curraissers for win. Trade in Deer/Fur/Ivory if possible.
