Im not sur if this idea was already posted but ill say it anyway. I think there maybe be a optional future age. There would probably be units with lasers:scan:?

Without a doubt i find it a little frustrating that once you have develpoed everything all you get is this future tech stuff that dont do anything other than earn you victory points. Even if the future techs made older techs more efficant or something would be a start. By that i mean future tech 1 may earn you a plus 1 on th attack value of a certain unit of your choice or reduce the shield cost of a certain unit or building etc.

But you win way before, so it doesn't matter. If there is a future age, I would never play it because I win in industrial age or when fission is discovered (UN)

I agree with mastertyguy, the game is usually over when you hit Fission (in Civ III anyway). From what I've read there will be no more "ages" in cIV anyway, so what you may want to see are weapons & tech that don't really exist yet in the world today

I agree games are as a rule won way before future tech becomes an option even on multiplayer it would seem that way. Even so there ar many who would like to see it. Theres a few good mods that have future techs on them and at the end of the day there is an editor so its not that difficult to add them if you want.

I can understand why this would be useful. In Civ I, Civ II, and lower powered games, I'd be frustrated that my massive tech lead just disappears once I reach the end and the others guys are still going, while all I get in return is a lousy 10 points per "future tech" researched.

On the other hand, I don't know how this would implemented and am leery of straying too far into the realm of sci-fi.

I think that it would be a good idea to speed up the research so that you don't always win before the cool techs (a.k.a. robotics, stealth, etc)

Yeah, a future "era" would be fun. The game would need to be balanced so that the winner wasn't always decided by the industrial "era" though. I always loved in CTP2 how the landscape totally transformed before your eyes - with hydroponic farms, robotic fisheries, etc. A few futuristic units and terrain improvements would be fun and add a little (more) spice to the game.

Future age in the sense that is is now---extra victory points.

I'd buy it if the future techs gave you universal modifiers that you could pick like CIV4 unit promotions. E.g. +1 trade for all your city centers, etc..

Yeah, would be cool. With cyborgs and robot.

Many posters said games end always earlier before reaching futuretech, which is in fact is true  . However, Civilization can be changed to promote a later too.

But that would be in another thread  .

The thing I like about CIV is it's realism, if you start adding all kinds of crazy sci-fi things it would loose its charm, there's already Empire Earth and Alpha Centuri for people who want to speculate about the future

So long as this idea doesnt stray in to the Giant Death Robots(older members Im sure remeber this) I am all for this idea.

There should be a future tech, but not with units that dont exist yet, but with technology that already exists. Ex. laser troops- the technology exists but it just isn't used yet.

Thats part of the fun having all these extras and if you dont like them it could just be an option that you can turn on of off before you start the game.

No. I haven't ever reached end game techs in Civ3 (ie. stealth, robotics, SDI) and if they add future techs in Civ4, I'd miss out even greater amount of techs.
Not necessarly. In Civ 4 you should be able to start WHEN ever you want (in which "age"), so you could start in "Modern Ages" (they no longer have ages so I am not tottally sure how this will work).

I like the idea of "future" units. For people starting in the beginning wouldn't make much impact (probably wouldn't get there), but could be a fun option to have.

DO you know what I would like better? That if you "won" by spaceship, you could go gone, similar to "re-starting" a game in future age (similar to Alpha Centauri).

Here's an idea: an expansion pack called "Civilization IV: Alpha Centauri" where you can either start new games in it, or load games from the end of a Civ IV scenario, er... something...like...that...eh i'll work on that idea....
