Futuristic Mod With Mythological, Feudal Japanese Undertones

ahh yes, you helped jog my memory!! (replying to post below).

I was telling my brother my ideas about immortality, (it is my favorite sci-fi fantasy, I just like the idea of even once people are immortal, they still remain selfish and power-hungry, I'm kinna cynical like that.) The real conflict begins once an authority begins to demand, that for the sake of effieciency, people join the collective conciousness. It opens a world of infomation, and empathy, but most individuality is lost.

In fact the collective highly enjoys the communion with itself.... but individuals fear the movement towards collectivism, and the staggering amount of efficiency it entails.

I never thought of it as another government.

Ill mull it over for a while.

I would really need 2 late govt's, maybe ARM and CORE :D , CORE for central conciousness giving out commands and ARM for commands/direction/rule coming from the conciousnesses of the people. A battle of order vs chaos. Of course I couldn't call em such, as I am trying to stray from TM'd names items etc.....

I'm thinking "CORE" may have one unique HUGE wonder, and "ARM" a variety of small, unique wonders.

How about a government type to reflect the increasing intrusion/use of technology in our everyday lives. Not just in terms of state surveillence of the people, but in terms of say cybernetics, global virtual-reality nets and high-speed quantum computers. Consider the amount of time people spend on the internet now, then consider how much more time we would spend if we could carry a computer and remote data-uplink in our heads, with faster data transimission than we have now. Instant communication, with people dropping in on virtual chat rooms to discuss politics, current events, etc. from anywhere, anytime. Instant voting on policy in a real-time democratic process. A kind of cybernetic uber-democracy.

Alternatively this could take a more sinister turn, with a kind of Borg-like hive-mind where cybernetics and computers are used to suborn people's free will. Efficiency and productivity would be fairly high, but creativity would be low.

Well, just a couple of more possibilities for you to consider. Hope this helps.

The 5 races will each have one major trait, every nation of this race will have it's racial trait plus a minor trait. Theri will also be a "master race" that has only it's own trait, plus expansionist (a very weak trait in this mod due to early fast units, aircraft etc. The advantage will be it will have an extra UU to emphasize it's trait.

Robotic=Industrial
Tireless bodies work day in and out to improve themselve.
Master UU=Worker Drone

Cyborg=Commercial
Always looking for good deals, spare parts and organs.
Master UU=Freightstar
?MP UU=Cargo?

Human=Scientific
The existance of the other four races began with this races' ingenuity, plus the advances they are first to discover, help themselves in the long run, as they must metamorphisize to a new race. However, as stated earlier, scientists will be more like engineers in this mod, seiing how it is a colonization mod, in other scenarios science may mean new technology, in this mod, the idea of science is to reaxh production capacity, at least until the very late stages.
Master UU=sabateur

Clone=Religious/Social
I will rename the trait to Social. Clones think and act for the good of each other.
Master UU = Soldier Clones

Mutant=Militaristic
Constant in fighting amongst this race has created a survival of the fittest mentality. Many immortal warrior mutants have been
bred, and need something to do.

Master UU = Commander.

The Major traits are set in stone. MP UU means multiplayer UU, as I am considering making a MP set of rules and an AI set of rules, so unique units may be used correctly. The master UU's are not set in stone.

This looks immense!

And I love the feudal Japan/Future slant...really original!

Keep it going, Dudes!

:D

unfortunately, due to lacking scenario editing tools, the japanese undertone will not be too noticable, I was mostly hoping for a script editor.....

well, I would imagine you can get the Manga/Anime feel from the units and other graphics.

Ok, I spent a weak vacation In Civfanatics Other Topics Forum. The natives were nice, but the government stank :P

Anyways, Before that I had pretty much shored up and finished my resources, but no screenies yet of those.

I do however, have a look at the advisors trade, (a female cyborg), and military, (a spike headed male mutant)

The domestic will probably be a humaton (robot), and the science will be Sid Meier, Cultural and foreign may remain as the originals, I am not sure yet.

Looks great! I'm working on some Mars mods at the moment, I would love to use some of your units in it, In return you can have any that I develop for my scenario. Heres one, a enviro suited security guard type unit; don't know if it would be of any use to you. :)

Of course.... any time you finish a futuristic original (no Star wars or Trek) unit with sounds, I'll package up, finish and send one of these pentagenesis units here, of your choice, to be released with your mod when you see fit.

:)

here is an attempt at an angry leaderhead, and a sad domestic advisor....

Are you doing all these graphics alone? When I grow up, I want to be just like you :p

This truly looks awesome, a complete re-do of everything civ3.

Not really, I am using some of Kinboat's, level's, Balou's, and Blue-O's units. However, when it is all said and done, it'll probably be 80 - 90% original artwork, seeing how artists are so few and far between.

That is my hope and intention. :)

I am getting close to finishing the process of turning the first 12 models into units, in fact I am pretty much working on the last animations of the slasher. I am very excited, as now i can make a dozen simpler and easier to animate units, like tanks and mechas.

Hi - I think You have great idea. It's great!!:goodjob: I'll download it for sure;) But I do have some "but":rolleyes:
Can you do the leaderhead more like human heads?? I think now is too futuristic. And 2nd thing. The general graphics. It's bit too green and not so "readable" Maybe blend it a bit... Good luck!!:)

I'd love to, but unfortunately I don't have the tools to do human leaderheads in a timely manner.

As far as the city view "chipboard" background, I may end up scrapping that whole part all together. It's a lot of effort for very little difference IMO.

Clone Focitower Civilopedia large icon.

Because of the length of time it takes for me to make units I would be very happy to "trade" units with you, as otherwise making my martian mod could take forever (it may actualy be quicker to go to mars and set up my own mining operation :) ).
Were you planning any artillery units, as among the limited unit selection for "Red mars" I am going to make a Laser artillery platform (basicly a large mining lazer mounted on a all terrain buggy, which will also form the basis for the reconisance buggy).

I'm thinking of making some city improvement buildings as well to go in the city view, perhaps they would look too primative for your mod as the first mars mod will feature low tech solutions to the everyday problems of martian exploitaion.
Also I am working on an upgraded security infantry, armed with a reactive gas powered rocket rifle;

Quite honestly, for now, this mod is a colonization mod (although it is 26th century colonization) as well. Anything that looks different from Vanilla Civ III would probably be an improvement.
Realistically, it will depend on the basic geometric shapes of buildings as to how I use them:
mutants will have spheres and ellipsoids
Clones will have cylinders
Humans have boxes
Cyborgs have pyramids and truncated pyramids (please do not correct my geometric terms :P )
Robots have cones and pyramids.

I have been thinking of artillery units lately, as they are an essential and overooked part of future mods. I am just not quite sure what to build yet. I am thinking if it is to be "artillery" it needs to be a plasma cannon or missile for future technologies. However, buggy would do fine for either a scout, or a UU. I am thinking about scapping the cycle scout actually.
