G&H's Ainu People for VP

Please feel free to use / convert my Civ IV Ainu Workboat model if you wish. :)

I love the design of the Ainu, but they do feel quite strong when compared to most Civs, and the Ainu AI tends to extremely outperform other AI. I've noticed a consistent 160 to 170% score advantage in every Ainu AI game. I think because they get an extreme amount of bonuses for expansion, without any type of malice. The foundation starts with the increased production for new cities the further away they are from the capitol. Combine this with the -7% needs decrease for the Great Nispa, and you have a civ which can have many cities with high population. This snowballs into cities with a lot of production, culture, and other yields, especially with the Kotan yields, which all synergizes into a Civ which can create anything easily.

In addition, it's war-fighting is quite epic. You start with a ranged recon unit that can eliminate the enemy's ability to heal in neutral or enemy lands. Combine this with another future recon unit which eliminates any defensive terrain bonuses for the enemy, and GG that ignores terrain costs and has 4 vision, there are few options for the enemy to actually counter. You mention in theory knights, but knights only are equal in flat terrain. Only the Aztec can match the Ainu in rough terrain, and that is only in forest. But.... Ainu eliminates the Aztec advantage with the Matagi. There is no real serious counter to the Ainu in the war-front.

So.. combine the sheer bonuses to expansion in addition to the ability of the Ainu military to eliminate eliminate healing, eliminate enemy defensive bonuses, while being exceptionally mobile in all environments, the Ainu are quite overpowered. Fun and creative, but quite OP.

Started a game and popped a Matang into an uconnected city but I'm not getting the production bonus. Playing on the second to last major CVP version, not the most recent one. Should that matter? Otherwise game is working fine.

Installed the newest version and it's not working still. Production (via unconnected city) and culture (connected) both not working.

Hi @bahamut19 ,

Sorry for the late reply, I hadn't seen your post. Thanks for the feedback, I haven't noticed like you an overpowering Ainu in my many games but I don't doubt your analysis. The design of this civilization was almost exclusively thought by Hinin, so I don't want to touch it too much. Hoping that he comes back among us and makes corrections if necessary.

No need to place a Matanginoto in a city to get the production bonus. With VP 4.16.2 it's work very well.
Example in a new city at 6 tiles of the Capital :

I haven't tested it with VP4.17.8 yet though.

In any case, thank you very much for testing this civ.
