G-III Kappa

I played one game, it was rather poor.
I decided to pick an unconventional civ and went with the Vikings. I didn't expand very fast, made some dodgy research decisions in the AA (out of practice I guess). Got one SGL in the middle ages and finished in 1820. Was just about to submit for the Gauntlet (hoping not to miss the deadline and maybe for last place) when I noticed the mapsize is Huge and the Gauntlet is Large. :d'oh:
I'll submit as a regular game anyway, hoping not to miss the deadline for the update.

Unconfentional is fun, but usually doesn't get great dates. Since I didn't get a single good map for 20K nor for huge histo (which was my main goal this month) I also decided to try one with a unconventional civ. Played India and got conquest on large map at 10AD. I really hate it when that happens.

I'm gona play more unconventional civs now, some civs don't even have 10 entries (like India).

I'm hoping that this doesn't get closed until later tonight - I have a game that is ok (won't beat any of Tone's games, but is better than I have done) that is nearly done, but I have to work today and so can't finish it...

I don't always like doing updates on holidays, so I'll wait until tomorrow.

ty :) Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to kill Khan for you in any of my games for this update.... but I will make a special, perhaps nuclear, target for him for the next one.

Wonder if you can win a diplomatic victory after nuking khan...

woohoo!! It's not a winning game, but it's at least near Tone ;) 1450 AD.

Went with persia, with Greece, Korea, Germany, Rome, France, China. I tried a 70% water map, not a 60% water map, to bring luxes closer. It had a large effect on the game, as I never really got 4 turn research and ended up at war with everyone at one point or another. Course, most of those were wars I started ;) But both Greece and Korea sneak attacked me.

Highlights: Non-coastal start, so no Colossus in my start - I pumped out a bunch of settlers. Lot's of war - Heroic Epic in the BC's.

Congrats, Tone! Unless someone else submitted a game that beat you ;)

Moderator Action: The Gauntlet has concluded.
Congratulations to both victors:
1 Tone 9413 1415 AD Persia
2 AutomatedTeller 5954 1450 AD Persia

Next one's on Chieftain.

@AT: So what was your early research path? Presumably CB first but did you (could you even) trade for Alpha or did you take a second tech, such as Myst before Writing?

I also tried a few inland maps, with the consideration that I would expand quickly and pick up a couple of early SGLs before looking to build wonders, or sometimes having a good second city to sit on the coast and be my 20K town but not one start gave me an SGL by the time I completed the Rep SS. There was no way that I was going to beat my previous games without an SGL by then.

My civ time has been pretty limited over the past week so maybe I need to play a game through from start to finish, no matter what the SGL situation is. We'll see what the next gauntlet is soon, and although an early Pyramids is always a game breaker, maybe a good date will be possible without any SGLs.

Edit: my slow typing strikes again: we can see what the new gauntlet is NOW!

I went CB/Mysticism and got alpha from the greeks. That's pretty easy to do on a pangea highlevel map, becaue the AI starts exploring with their extra units. You just have to be careful not to have ottoman's, because from what I can tell, they beeline for monarchy, and on emperor, they will research CB before you.
