G&K: Steam server down??? Stuck at updating

i successfully downloaded the expansion but when i try to launch the game it stuck at the update window. Says ready to play in approximately 0 second but never actually launch. this is frustrating.

You should probably restart your PC (first try just to restart Steam), and then to validate the integrity of the files via Steam.

hmm... thanks very much! it solved the problem, sort of.

after checking integrity of the files it said two files failed and needed to be reacquired. Steam proceeded to download these two files and I was able to launch the game. The Strange thing is after i quit the game and relaunch, it got stuck at that update screen again. I had to do the checking integrity and redownloading again. Do i have to do this Every time i start a game now?

No, just until they get the patch stabalized.

I have not been able to play since the update. After lots of attempts at fixing the problem Civ5 install freezes at preparing. I even left it running for hours.I would love to play Civ5 and Gods and Kings, having the games and not being able to play sucks, still waiting for Steam to send solution, don't they care about their customers.

Right click Civ 5 in steam and click properties. Then, in the local files tab click "Verify Integrity of Game Cache". I attached a screenshot. It'll take a minute because it checks all 6-7GB to see if any files got corrupt and then redownload what it needs. If that fails to fix the issue, I'd delete and redownload the whole thing.
