G-Major 112

Medieval conquest in 59 turns? :crazyeye:

How can be this even possible... :goodjob:

No magic involved. Just HOF typical (cheat) settings (Cold Climate, Aggressive AI) and Keshik spam. The only medieval units I had to kill were 3 Longbows and 1 Crossbow. No problem for a horde of level 4 Keshiks.

Edit: Renaissance game with Justinian is done, too. 3 more to go. :)

What does Agg AI do...nerf Tech?

Future is hilarious...I have no idea what to do  never fight in this era. Anyone using nukes?

6 to take down when people will put some date refs. :borg:

Well, Polina is already pumping out the ridiculous dates...wow

By the way, Happy Birthday, Tachy! ...not sure how people know (oh...and what's a buffon ;))

Oh...and yall forget my question about Future era. OMG it is soooo easy. I putzed around too much early. AIs are completely brain dead.

What horde can be made in 59 turns? You mean Aggressive AI in game options or leaders with aggressive trait?

Gotcha! You haven't read my space game thread. No biggie. I knew it from the beggining. Most people are interested in helping newbies, play nobles games or something similar for useless comparisons (as people really learn something...I delved into it and I didn't learn anything substantial) or to be in awe in show games (although mine started like that and made the mistake to pursue that route). And I forgot sempiternal discussions on abstract stuff like this Mids discussion. Seriously, did someone learnt from it. I learnt nothing and was a big waste time. When it comes to push the level to more details, oops, no more interest. Except if it grand-strategy, that might work.
I really hoped that game turned out like a mini-sgotm with good strategical discussions (now, it's getting good thanks to two individuals) and optimization discussion.

buffon doesn't exist. It's a translation "miscarriage" of the french word "bouffon".
A "bouffon" is like what is presently the avatar of Jester Fool. And I just realized what is a jester...

I close the unwanted O/T comment.

The tech speed with Agg AI is ridiculously bad. The ‘war success’ bonus for threatening their cities is also great for efficient worker stealing (faster cease fire) and faster capitulation (renaissance and later starts). They get so much wimpier with this option.

Great to have you joining in. The more the merrier. But why do you need reference dates?

Well, Polina is already pumping out the ridiculous dates...wow

Oh, I’m sure Tachywaxon will beat them all without any problems and show us some truly ridiculous dates, as usual.

What horde can be made in 59 turns?

You can build more than you need. The key is to get them out as early as possible. I was actually not very lucky in my medieval game. Got the stolen workers I wanted for faster chopping only very late (turn 19).

@Tachywaxon
Your Saladin thread is a great read. It has already given me much to ponder. Though, I admit, I have no heart for excessive micro optimization. :crazyeye:

 Now now..I have read some of your Sal thread, but just missed the important part about your b-day ;) I'm running around doing all sort of things so haven't been perfectly focused on it. Good to see Kos contributing. Ok...back to my Noble game:lol:

I was kidding you about buffon. Just figured it was a typo. However, I actually thought you meant the word "buffoon", which is an English word meaning silly or stupid person, or clown. And where did "buffoon" come from? You guessed it...from the French word "bouffon", which I just learned from our very discourse. Of course, as we discussed some time age, there's heavy influence of French on the English language, even though it is Germanic.

I think most french words in english lexicon comes from William the Conq. time. Just like norse terms are prolly coming from the viking invasion. Otherwise, true english is old english. They are not many of these words as far as I know. "Bread" is one of them IIRC. For us, although Latin should be our etymological root, we have a germanic root too from the frankish empire (HRE somehow) and there is only ~200 words from this orgin amongst multiple thousands words.

Man, so many hours spent in my youth with a french dictionary/old english dictionary at my old granny house because there was nothing else to do. Lol.

But why do you need reference dates?

It helps me to see the viability of my games. And pushing higher the bar of micro if I see my first/second attempt is not going to beat the first place.

You are correct on the Norman invasion. However, the influence was far greater than you can imagine. French and English lived side by side for several hundred years, with French being the dominate language or court language. More the a third of modern English is French influenced or direct cognates. The influence is so great that true English really isn't old English. In fact, old English is very hard to read. True English is Middle English and that was with the heavy French influence. We're talking 10 to 15,000 words. (And, of course, Modern English has bastardized a whole bunch of other things)

Haha, and those western canadians spitting on french and unbeknownst to them, their english is already tainted by french.

 Those bastiges are rolling in Frenchiness

Look up French/English cognates sometimes. Thousands of them. And most of these are words we use everyday. Like "questionnaire" we discussed a while back, or even question.

I've always regretted not sticking with French when I was little. Ma mère spoke it fluently. I've seen many a french film in my day.

I cannot believe some of these dates...it's ridiculous. I simply am not at the emperor level. Are people settling on horses and not even bothering with barracks? Is the RNG in your favour? I am losing battles at +80% and even 90% and its just disheartening.

A lot of it is worker steals and constant forest chops.

4 workers working in 2 pairs can put a chop into the capital every turn. Combined with +10:hammers: per turn, it should be enough to get a war chariot out every turn.

For Ancient, I find 6 warriors sent out to steal workers from each civ and stunt AI growth is very good at the start. Also, focusing on taking capitals first yields good results too.

These gauntlets are now closed.
