Gah I just lost the whole thing I'd typed, damnit.
OK Well I'll just give the general gist of it. I played until the turn of the century, it's now 10AD. I used our hero to make an army of swordsmen so we could build the heroic epic, which is being built in Osaka. I've sort of switched into infrastructure mode while I waited for the Epic to build because I want to get as many heros out of our war with India as possible.
I traded philosophy to Mao for Writing and gold, and hten traded gold for map making later on. He's still got some techs but our money situation isn't spectacular. I set us to minimum research because no matter what I did monarchy would take 40 turns so I figured I'd get money out of it to trade to Mao later for techs so we could catch up.
If we can get more heroes out of the war with india we can rush a forbidden palace later and possibly even SunTzu's, although we've already built a lot of barracks.
The other big story has been my quest to keep China from expanding. The two warriors up there have been running interference with a spearman/settler pair for quite some time, enough so that our settler is only a few turns away from founding a city that should hopefully block them off. We can then use his spearman escort to keep them from ever expanding beyond where they are and lock down the rest of the continent for ourselves. Here's the situation up there:
I've created another dotmap with where the rest of our cities should eventually go. Good job on ignoring my previous one in the south, though. Once we discovered India it threw the whole thing out the window and I'm glad whoever founded that iron town did so - that was a very strategic and possibly game-saving move.
Here's the latest dotmap:
The 1 is where our settler currently in the field should go. The settler out of Kyoto should head up and found in spot #2 to really lock china out of our area. The settler coming out of Kagoshima should go to spot #3 so we can get a boatload of spices under our belt.
Keeping china from getting any spices is important because if we can be trading spices to him he'll probably be placated for some time until we can oust him from our island. It'll also give us a lock on spices in the world, most likely.
Our swordsman army is kinda hurt so I suggest healing him up for a couple turns before doing anything else with him. After that, I'd suggest stomping around and killing units with him. Wait to do a major offensive until the Heroic Epic is finished - atleast that's what I would do.
Here's the save at 10AD
