Galactic genocide by solar system destroying death stars [GalCiv2 AAR]

Based off of Vanilla the minor races always had rather nice planets, are they compatable with Terran living needs?

Yes the 2 minor races located in our territory have size 15 planets, and are compatible to us.

The triple alliance between us, altarian and the iconians seems like a very good idea, we are in the corner, and the iconians and altarians will indeed be a buffer between us.

A bit to the north are the torians, so we are lucky to have non evil races near us. Its just the Drath messing with the iconians to attack us, they are annoying.

I think its best to make the lvl 20 planet the shipbuilder, with a manufacturing capital, earth as the economic capital, and the lvl 14 planet as the research capital.

For the rest i will send some traders to the altarians to start improving relationships, and see if we can get the iconians sign a peace treaty, if they refuse i beeline for invasion technique to take their planet located in our territory.

The invasion tech will be usefull for taking the minors as well, with their sweet lvl 15 planets.

For the rest i will build up the other planets as economy worlds, mixed with a few research ones.

Good ideas?

I agree.

Snagging the indie worlds might be a good long term goal as well, but the flipside is the espionage events where they grab techs from other races. Probably invading them should be something put off since we've already got nice planets to develop, and the indies are never aggressive. If one of our allies declares war on the indies, then we should try to snag the indies plans first, at that time.

I have started to build up the worlds we have, the shipbuilder is on the level 20 planet, economy captital is on earch, and the tech capital is on the level 14 planet.

I did some research in lasers to get some military cranked out, so we arent an easy target, but we are still very low on the military ladder.

I made peace with the iconians, and got an economical treaty with the altarians. We are close with them, the iconians are still cool to us though.

I did some further exploring and i think that the torians have the large cluster above us to themselves, their population is huge!

Picture update!

map2-2.jpg

The minimap, i havent explored all the torian space yet.

relations2.jpg

Our relations, the altarians are the closest to us, we cant offer an alliance yet becouse i assume they dont have the tech. And tech trading is off.

relations3.jpg

All is well, the iconians are at war with the korath clan though.

pop.jpg

Population, torians are huge!

military.jpg

Military, we suck :-(

econ.jpg

Economy, well we are not the worst...

This is how we compare with the others in terms off populatian, military, and economy, we are the dark blue stripe. As you can see we are average at best :-(

I was thinking of researching better military techs, for bigger ships. Maybe start researching better social and economy techs as well?

Don't fear the Torians, there's almost no way for them to not have low pop.
Are the Korath the grey blob the middle of the map? I would fear them. I think they take priority over the Drath as the race to eliminate, unless you plan on going Evil. No truce with them, other than to get them to attack some other nasty, like the Yor.

I'd reconsider the bigger ships for now, as they're more maintenance. More logistics, with tiny ship fleets should be adequate. No need even for engines. Since you chose lasers, I'd recommend go to lasers III or IV (whatever gives us 2 weapons per ship). Just build enough to make us at least middling in the military race, unless we need more to win over the Icon and Altair diplomatically ( and they give us a diplo neg for being weak).
In a real war, I'd want the small hulls at least.

After that, I'd go for raising us a notch in farms and eco buildings, and then concentrate on making the manufact capital top notch (better factories, a generator).

Have at least one planet making freighters focused on Icon trade. We should try to snag at least positive feelings so the military race isn't such a drag.

How close are we to the Alliance tech? I feel we should try to cement the alliance, and then worry about a military to put a hurt on the Korath. EDIT: DARN FORGOT THE tech trading issue. Oh well, we may need to worry about their feelings a bit more, but keeping them close and having good rapport shouldn't be a problem.

The Grey blob is the Iconians (Austria)

I agree, smaller ships with more weapons makes more sence right now.

I went with the smaller ships, and im at laser 5 now, i made alot, almost enough to fill each planet up to max almost now.

I was thinking of getting an orbital fleet manager at each planet so they all fight as a fleet. Then just upgrade the ships with no engines, life support or sensors, just a hull plastered with weapons, they only need to defend...

Situation is going along ok, researched more social things for a better economy, and our military rating is catching up.

The torians are a bit powerfull now, they were bribed into war with us by an unknown force (drath i guess), but we could settle a peace before anything serious happend, we did lose our flagship though :-(

Minimap update:
map4.jpg

I am guessing the torians have the enire cluster to themselves, though the red place indicates a drengin presence, couldnt explore more becouse our flagship was vaporised.

relations4.jpg

Relations are ok, but the iconians keep sliding to cool and below.

Torians and altarians like us. I also send 2 trade ships to the torians, to keep relations up.

stats4.jpg

The stats, we arent the best :-( and this is only compared to 4 races, there are 5 more.

We also took the 2 minor worlds with no problems. Also our economy is now running at 70% becouse i forgot to mention we were riding on an economic boom which has since then ended. So no more easy cash.

I think i found a bug, the altarians arent building any weapon ships, their worlds each have 2 or 3 transports, and maybe 1 scout. No attack ships at all!

Should we expand, or first try to contact the other races? To see what we are up against. Allying with the weak altarians might proof a mistake???

I'm not sure if not building warships is a bug, but it likely means the Altairan have only research planetary invasion. I usually see at least one AI do that in my ToA games, and they've researched invasion over other military techs.

LOL at you building such a huge fleet. I was thinking maybe a 5 ship fleet of tiny ships per every few planets.

Congrats on grabbing the minors.

The military bar shows that the Korath are our big problem. I'd say our main survival focus is making sure our navy has strong offense-defense match-ups vs. the Korath (including larger ships now), while continuing to try to build up an alliance. For now focus on the research side of that problem, and then generally phasing (mothballing/upgrading) some of our picket ships into a special anti-Korath fleet.
I may be wise to have a small anti-Icon squadron also, given they're only neutral.

I agree with sending out some scouts to contact the others. We probably won't win lots of friends, but we might make a like ethic diplo contact, and it will help us figure out how strongly the others are doing. If the Korath look to be in a good position to go on a conquest, we will probably have to pre-empt it with an invasion, once we have a better fleet than them in quantities that let us cover our planets against spore attacks.
Really, not having alliances might not be such a bad thing, since if we have weak allies, they may effectively just give the Korath free planets since the spore attack is so powerful.
Possibly divide the task of the Korath up into 'wars'. Our first war might be to take their closest 20% fo territory, etc..

Not much else to do really. Cripple/kill the Korath and then possibly the Drath and Yor (if present). Leave open the possibility of a spontaneous alliance by being nice to our trading partners and friendlies, but likely after we take out our dire foes, we'll be pushing around the neutrals until we have a clear domination from which to leverage a conquest or a militant diplo win ("join us or die"). Cutting out tech trading cuts a lot of our other options.

Heh, yeah kind of a big fleet, maybe a bit overkill, but the ai has the nasty habit to always sneek up onto my undefended worlds.

Things have gone from bad to worse, i just started building orbital fleet managers everywhere, so my ships can fight in fleets on my planet. The new mark 5 phoenix ships are ready, with a laser attack of 5.

I contacted the drengin, and soon they declared war on the altarians, a few other civs came to their help, note the fundamentalists, they split away in an event from evil empires, dont know if they are powerfull though...

altwar.jpg

and soon after that the korath declared war on us :-(, this is now the situation:
rel5.jpg

And the military stats:
stats5.jpg

I am now reseaching medium hulls, and will try to make them into korath counters, but i dont know where they are (the korath) or how their ships are fitted.

It'd be a good idea to send a few scouts to monitor the Korath. I'm not sure how I feel about the Drengin, but likely they're going to get creamed. I'm not sure if we should try to capitalize or just stay focused on the Korath.

I'm thinking if that declaration of war implies that the Drath are alligned with our friends, but don't like us, that may mean big trouble for us later.

I guess the game is on hiatus?

If the Dregin are likely to loose then it's probably best to stay focused on the Korath. Not sure what to do about he Drath other than try to stay on our allies good sides.
What weapon path are we researching?
