While running in windows mode, I was playing the game as the Khmer in the NextWar mod. I just initiated my first golden age at 760 AD. I went to click on my capital city and received the following dialog box:

“ERROR: Failed to allocate video memory. Please try reducing your graphics settings.
File:\main\Civilization4\SDKs\Gamebryo2_0\CoreLibs\NiDX9Renderer\NiDX9SourceTextureData.cpp, Line:321” (Please see Error Civ 4.jpg)

After clicking ok, the game crashed and I received this dialog box:

“Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library: Program: …er’s Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application’s support team for ore information.” (Please see Error Civ 4 cont.jpg)

After clicking ok, I restarted BTS. I loaded the last auto save (3 turns back) and repeated approximately the same steps but was unable to replicate the issue.

The first night I only had the video memory allocation error (discussed in http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=5732535 and http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=233385). Last night I started a hot seat game with the NextWar mod and at about the two hour mark the game froze. I rebooted and I got the video memory allocation error once and get blue screens of death after 20 minutes. A poster at apolyton.net (http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?threadid=168561) also had similar issues.

Tonight, I am going to run the Windows Memory Diagnostic on my PC, reinstall DirectX 9.0c and install the latest drivers for my video card. I will play the existing games that I got the errors with and start a new one without any mods or user generated maps.

After using a memory checker, reinstalling DirectX 9.0c and getting new video card drivers, the solution was to drop the graphics down to "medium". I had to do this on my laptop for vanilla but never for my "main" pc.

I have a Radeon 9800 video card and had major issues until I changed the graphics down to "medium".
