Game crashes on start with DX9/11

Hello. My game crashes on start with the latest patch. It happens with DX9 and DX11. I have installed latest drivers for my ATI card. I removed GraphicsSettingsDX11.ini file. What else could I do? Here's the files:

Have you tried to verify the integrity of the game files via Steam?

Ya mines crashing too and i have an ATI card thats updated similar to heke.

And I have tried that it fixes 2 corrupted files but then when I replay it the game still doesn't work. Then I do the same option again and the two corrupted files popup again.

I'm happy to wait but it would be nice to know if a hotfix is planned because looking through various threads here and on 2k it looks as if there is a good amount of people with this problem which is unfortunate. Some of them have been able to update their drivers and it worked but some (like me) havn't had such luck

You can be sure that they are planning another patch, because they also don't want to have unhappy customers, but finding out what exactly the problem is needs some time :/.

That is a very important point.
In one of the other threads, there are graphical problems with ATI cards described, so there's definitely soemting going on with the drivers.
It would probably also be good if you could look through your Civ5 folders to see, if there are any recent mdmp files present. If so, then please attach them, they might be helpful.

Thanks all for your reply. I have tried to verify integrity of game cache but without result. So it seems that there's not much to do but to wait for hotfix as other ATI users have this problem too. Looking forward to reply from devs...

Many people are having the problem, that's true. The problem is, with so many combinations of hardware/software in PCs it's difficult to tell where the problem is sometimes.

Is your machine more than 2 years old? I've read solutions lately involving chipset drivers not being updated. Which os are you using? Some are finding success following procedures for compatibility mode. Don't take this wrong, but investigating these possibilities may solve your problems, and in the process, teach you a little about pc gaming.

Adjuvant: I don't mind, I am happy if people are involved to problem solving

My computer is less than 2 years old so I don't think that's the problem. I am using Windows 7 so there shouldn't be compatibility problems either. I have provided dxdiag, what else could I do?

I'm having no problems. This machine's working on 3 years old. Here's my dxdiag if you want to compare.

edit: What about screen resolution? I've read other applications recently crash because of this. That would be a software bug, but remedied pretty easily by the user. Mine is 1600x900, which also seems default in Civ5. <-- brainstorming. If it's not possibly an issue, don't hit me.

I still would like to have official word from one of the devs. Have you guys time to take a look into this one? I am not able to play this game and it really bothers me. I am keen to provide you any information you want.

I keep on with my monology.

I verified integrity of game cache twice but it didn't help. Game still crashes immediately. So I decided to complitely remove Civilization 5. First I uninstalled the game and finally removed all related data folders. Game still crashes immediately.

I am very disappointed to Firaxis. Nobody from developing team has given a single word in this thread. For me it seems that you guys are justignoring your customers. I was able to play Civilization 5 before the latest patch. Now it doesn't work for me. So thanks for nothing.

Please note that this here is a fan forum, and that we're already happy that the devs even appear here.

Now...mmhh..is it possible for you to roll back to older ATI drivers? At least one other person had also crashes at start, but was able to play again with an older driver (289.something, if I remember correctly).

Thanks for your contribution J. I will try to roll back older drivers today. Though the patch didn't work before ATI driver update either but I'll give it a shot anyway.

Okay it works now! Thanks for a tip J!

I uninstalled drivers manually, rebooted to safe mode and executed driver sweeper. Then I rebooted back to normal mode, downloaded latest drivers, verified game cache and it worked after that.

...so I conclude the original driver installation must have been faulty. Strange, thought the times when such things happened were over.

Perhaps so. But at least this was good lesson to learn. Always do clean sweep for drivers before installing new ones!
