I have seemed to developed an odd problem and could use some help.

When I am in a game (I have Random Seed on) if I save and then for example, go to an ancient runes, not like it's outcome and reload it will crash to my desktop. Steam stays running but Civ V will turn to a black screen and I'll get a windows vista message saying Civ V has stopped running; search online for a solution and close or just close it.

This is a new problem that has started this evening. :(

I started a new Japan game and it did it. I decided to try Egypt again it did it. I've been able to get it the app to crash about 6 or 7 times now..

I've tried reinstalling my video drivers and defragging my hdd. Restarting my computer and trying Steam in online and offline modes I have also tried. None of these have fixed this problem.

I read in another thread about a Clock Mod causing some issues similar to mine but I don't have this mod installed.

My system is an intel core 2 extreme 3.2 gHz, 8gb ram, nvidia 9800gt x 2 in sli with Vista 64 bit.

I hope someone in the forums here can help me out, you guys are the masters. Thanks a bunch in advance. :)

Unfortunately this method has not worked for me. So far the only method that does is exiting the game to windows, then restarting it. The link you provided has led to more understanding of the issue though and I thank you for your advice and that link.

This ^ is another link I have come across where many people are having this problem. It appears to be almost unavoidable at this point and Firaxis is aware of the problem and says they are working on a fix. Hopefully it arrives sooner than later. This bug makes the game very close to unplayable :(

Overall after over a week of playing now I have formed an opinion on Civ 5.

It is seriously flawed. Sure it can be fun to play, it's Civ, but the bugs are far too many and far too crippling to play the game as it was meant to be played. I am 36 yrs old and have been playing video games for about 30 of those years and this is the buggiest game I can remember having played in a very long time. Memory is faulty but I believe my memory to have less faults than this game as it stands right now. ;)

The textures take several seconds to load when looking around the map, the game crashes just trying to load a doggone save, the AI is worse than ET for Atari 2600, the lack of support I've gotten from Firaxis is troubling and very disappointing, the time it takes between turns is obscenely long (my laptop has a stop clock, I timed my last turn change, I am at turn 67 on a TINY map with 4 civs and it took 1:43!!), the graphical glitches are abundant (red dots on my desert an winter hills, water showing up as shadowed/darkened land tiles, sputtering almost constantly while looking around the map), and there's plenty more I could rant about.

I really enjoy this game, in fact I like it more than Civ 4 in a lot of ways. When I got this game on release day I had only slight issues and was able to play a full game relatively error free (germans, standard speed, large map, 8 total civs, space race vic) that lasted about 10 hours I think and I did not sleep. I played until I won :) I really love the style of Civ5, less cartoony to me and more artistic and antiquish looking (if that makes sense to ya).

I really want Firaxis to fix these issues :( I really want to play more Civ5 without it crashing and having terrible looking graphical glitches. Once in awhile a crash? Fine, no problem, it happens. But 8 times in an hour?! Not good. I never had this problem with Civ4 and that too I bough on release day. I know that in a month maybe two I will look back on this rant an be happy that it's in the past an that Civ runs great now, but getting there is killin' me! :(

Please Firaxis fix Civ 5 so that it's more awesomer than it already is! It's like a diamond in the rough right now, I can see the beauty that it holds but Firaxis, my friends, you need to cut off the rough to bring that beauty out!
