hihi everyone. i just bought this game and installed it as it tells me.

my laptop specifications:
1.73GHz processor
ATI radeon x700 with 128mb
512mb RAM

after installing the game, updating it, i tried my 1st touch to the game. suddenly whole game crashes, my laptop is forced to shutdown without any notice. this always occur within 10-20 minutes when i start running the game.

anyone knows what i can do about it? i don't think a reinstall will work. by the way, i can't find any uninstall shortcuts. how do i uninstall this game?

If your lappy is shutting itself down after more or less the same time I would say it's possibly overheating the CPU. There is little you can actually do about it, more so with a laptop.

My pc crashed yesterday while playing Civ4 and I blamed lots of other things. After eventually getting it to shut down and the reboot it was fine until 10 minutes into civ4 it crashed again. Had the game for a month and this the first time.
Is this posting more than coincidence?
Banjanx:(

banjanx, please post your spec and I might be able to suggest where the problem might lie. I assume you have patched the game and all the DirectX and video drivers are up to date.

can a CPU fan installment solve part of this problem?

ok bought a new pc a few days ago and civ4 too. my pc should be able to run it 512mb etc etc. im not very knowledgable about pcs, cant even figure out how to change/check screen resolution or find anything to do with my video card. the box said it was 256mb nvidia tho. I have an imedia mc 1538. the game first said failed to initialise but now goes to a blank screen with music still playing. cant exit unless i reboot. do i need to get a patch? help i really dont know what im doing!!!!!!!!

banjanx, grab the latest patch 1.61 from here, http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/downloads.htm. Then try running it again, as you suggest it should run to some degree. If I'm reading what I think is your current spec then you have a GeForce 256mb 6200 PCI-e, it should have no problem running the game. If you're still having trouble, download the latest video drivers from http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downloads_winxp_2k_32bit_84.43.html. See if that helps at all.

nolink, I would say that a CPU fan would help the problem but I don't really know alot about laptops and if you can even get such a fan.

Running most games on a laptop is interesting at best, and way bad at worst.

I would try turning everything off, i.e. turn the graphics to Low, and the animations off.

I can run it on my laptop, but the performance is such that it prohibits much enjoyment from it. As a result, I don't do it anymore. Civ 3 runs fine, so...when I am on the road and using the laptop...I'll stick with Civ3.
