System specs
Asus P5B Deluxe Mainboard
Intel Core2 Duo E6600
Asus Geforce 460 GTX 1GB - Driver ver 258.96 from the Asus website.
4GB RAM
Win XP SP3
Civ5 Patched whatever the latest is, .62 etc
So when I bought the thing about a week ago I had an Asus Geforce 7600 GT and I knew it was under spec.
The intro vid never worked. Garbled green/purple stripes but audio OK. After pressing buttons the menu comes up good and the game seemed to work great guns, even on the 7600 @ 1280x1024.
I am playing the Large sized map, one down from Epic.
So about turn 350 ish the game just locks up hard. Mouse still works and audio still OK but graphics seize up and can't quit the game.
Restart computer. Reload game. It goes another few turns and then same thing. Restart, goes another few turns and locks up again etc etc etc.
I dropped the video options all right down to low. That got me another couple of dozen turns and then crashed again. It's pretty random not fixed to any particular event apart from seems to happen when the game scolls the map from one event to another in a different area.
So I upgrade the video card to a 460 GTX and run the game now at 1960x1080 or whatever it is. I increased the video options again but Overlay mode, Terain Tessallation and Shadowing all refuse to go higher than Low. So don't know what's going on with that too.
Intro movie still doesn't work, same thing even on the 460 GTX. Game went another 50 or more turns quite well still a bit sluggish but a bit better than 7600. Probably not heaps though not quite like I was expecting.
Then crashes again now at about turn 400-420 ish.
So what the deuce?
Does my computer hate me because I am caning it?
I am going to upgrade to 260.69 tonight as per nvidia website, but I am not that confident. Is there any magic tips for fiddling inside that .ini file? I had a look but there is a lot of crap in there.
