I just don't think it should be against one of those people who were assigned as protected until turn 100. I mean that's the whole point, right?

Had to admit that I thought that "protection" concerned declaration of war not settling. It would've been easy for Toch to block me to have only 4 decent and 2 filler cities. After that my options would've been very limited. Even after agressive settling I'll have very hard time to compete with double shrined or better located nations.

On the subject of lands and the availability thereof, I have a nice wide open space to the east with plenty of delicious city spots. It does however appear to be infested with lions which decide to eat my scouts.

According to Clamburger, Dux is north of Scuum so my map isn't entirely accurate, he has to cross to the other side of the continent. Which is probably much more spacious than the cramped super-continent, where if you settle six or so tiles from your capital you are infringing on another civ's turf.

And for an idea of how not-to-scale this map is, here is a (modified, yellow borders are gone) image of my island from Stonehenge's centered view.

Also the top of what is visible on that island is tundra and ice, so there must be a lot of artic on this map.

Looks like I'm on the shorter end of the stick. We'll see what happens once I post the turn 100 (375 BC) update. Also, my capital's borders expanded to the 100 culture mark yet I didn't get any score increase. Hmm....

Helping someone out with their game (as Joshua did with you) doesn't mean they're automatically 100% in an alliance. But you can rest assured that I'm generally nice to everyone throughout the early game, so I'm not going to go after you in the foreseeable future.

Please, of all things, let's stop talking about it being "close". The site was about equal travelling distance for both of us (shorter travelling distance to me, if you want to get nitpicky). A lot of people have been victim to far more "aggressive" settling in this game than taking an equidistant spot, but they haven't made a fuss. Anyway, we'll sort things out between us.

Let's get nit picky, the game doesn't count diagonal tiles as the same as horizontal or vertical, look at the way it does maintenance, so technically it is closer to her in game terms.

"In game terms"? Problem is you can define "game terms" for many things. In terms of unit movements, the game doesn't care whether a tile is on a diagonal or not, so you could just as easily say that it's closer to me when you define "in game terms" as how units move. Do you see how this is going nowhere?

Look, let's just agree that we both wanted a spot that was located between us, and I got there a few turns earlier.
