Game unplayable! Locks up and more. :(

updated to latest patch. However each patch is different.

1.00 - ctd, locks up when lenord starts to talk, or just crashs befor it finish's loading. No error.

1.09 - crashs when i click on any unit. no error.

1.52 - locks up just after it finishs loading. have to restart to get a useable system back. No error.

a64 4000+
1gig ram
sb audigty 2 zs
6800gt

Using latest creative drivers.
Using 85.89 nvidia drivers, however driver versions have no change on the crashs. Tryed about 9 different versions and had no effect on the crashs.

Ran full hd scans for bad sectors(incase)
48 hours of memtestx86 no errors.
Full reinstall of windows.

No other game crashs like this. I think i had wow crash once and that was because of a known issue with that patch at the time. No other game crashs, ever.

What is the size, make and model # of your PSU?

1. Set displayMovies to 0 and savemem to 1 in the civ init file

2. set graphics to low in civ options screen

3. In windows: display properties -> advanced -> GeForce fx Go5200 32M / 64M -> performance and quality settings, set slider from quality to high performance, set antialiasing from 4xs to application, set Anisotropic filtering from 8x to application

Its a 500watt antec unit. According to my apc backup unit the system at full load only draws 219watts. So i am no where neer the limit for that.

I tryed thoes settings(most are already like that) and no luck.

I get this error now. it is odd because there is NOTHING wrong with my hd. Ran 5 total scans of it.

The file it has a problem with seems random.

But just incase i am installing it on one of my other hd's.

No ctd but a hard lockup.

Whopping big power supply too.

video card overheating maybee.

Is the card on its on power line with no other devices hooked into it.

I guess you will have to start turning things off one by one.
