*Civilization III. It's very difficult to improve on near-perfection, and CivIV didn't even come close.

We call it Civ2

*Battlefield 1942. Its successors don't have single-player campaigns.

Battlefield was never meant to be experienced as a single-player game, and even BF1942 shows that. What I would love however, is a new Second World War based game with the quality of BF2 (particularly the squad and talk system) with the '42 maps.

Kan, we all know very well that WWII shooters are overdone.

Like how the WW2 strategy game was overdone, then Company of Heroes came along?

Don't get me wrong, WW2 games in general are over-saturated, and it takes a rare game to break that. But Battlefield 1942 was brilliant, and I still play it just to fight those maps, and Battlefield 2 is brilliant, because it forced players together and focused them on achieving goals under an actual player commander with a decent ability to communicate with each other, it just lacked decent maps beyond Karkand and Jalalabad.

Combine them and you have a perfect Battlefield experience

Company of Heroes is the only WWII strategy game I know of; what others are there?

Well, aliens invading the Earth has kinda been overdone (like in X-COM: UFO Defense and Half-Life 2). And so has rescuing princesses (Super Mario Galaxy and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and ICO). And so have wartime shooters in general (Battlefield 2 and Call of Duty 4, among countless others).

Just to ask anybody who played it, what was the story in Shadow of the Colossus? And in God of War?

Does that include Maniac Mansion? Does that include Metroid? Does that include The Legend of Zelda? I don't know any more planned games for those franchises (at least). I only know about a Final Fantasy sequel because one of my classmates at school keeps talking about it to me.

I can garuantee you that, at some point, another Zelda game and Metroid game will be made. They're premier franchises for Nintendo. There's at least 6-7 games in the last list you posted that are being made.
