So, are there any potential issues when gaming (games use 4:3 aspect ratio) on the native WUXGA display systems (namely laptops)... or, please tell me the software/hardware is smart enough to just leave black space at the flanks (L & R) of the screen. In this example, let's presume the game is running in 1600x1200.

No resizing necessary, right? The 1600x1200 is nice and centered on the 1920x1200, with all pixels (for the game) in perfect use, with some black space on the sides. And please - certainly no... *gasp* stretching.

Please tell me that's how it works.

Any decent game will support widescreen resolutions. Those that don't will have black on the sides of the monitor.

With stand-alone monitors, it depends on the monitor, good ones have an option to either stretch, use the aspect ratio, or do a 1:1 pixel replication. Laptops often have the same options in the BIOS, depends on the laptop though.

..but almost always nvidia drivers can make 1:1 ratio.

chances are that 1920x1200 is good quality thing that supports this mode.

You couldn't have said "Spoiler for QSXGA", could have you?

Never tried to change this before, but now that I do I notice the four scaling options on my nVIDIA Control Panel are grayed out, with "Use nVIDIA scaling" selected. Could this have something to do with many parts of a Dell BIOS being locked? Or with my specific monitor or video card? Or just that I have a bunch or programs running?
