Gary's Poser Practice Question Thread

I like that you have a Recoil after the shot Gary and the manner in which he raises his rifle appears as his taking careful aim. Keep his back foot (right) still as you move his left foot and slightly tilt his body to provide a shift of weight as he steps forward. Solid Steps without sliding and as Plotinus posted, without moving both feet at the same time. Experiment with the speed of his step so it appears natural and deliberate without a slow motion appearance.

One more thing to look at adjusting is after he shoots, have him lower his rifle without raising it or moving back to the default position as if it is a "rewind".

Yeah. I had a lot of trouble with the "victory" pose. It does look like he is doing Michael Jackson's moon walk. I need to work on it some more. The other four poses I think look pretty good.

I'd thinken up the rifle a bit personally, and maybe the arms too :) And maybe not strech out the left arm as far as it does although it's hard to tell where it is from that preview.

OK. I beefed him up a little here and also made the rifle a little bigger. Let me know if this looks better. The one on the right is the beefed up figure, the one on the left the original.

Gary, he's looking really good, I'm sure the finished unit will be well received.

To make M3 shorter, play around with increasing the Yscale of the main camera. A few test renders will allow you to get something close to PDM, although it won't be as stocky as him because the two figures are vastly different.

In the firing animation, try moving the hip back a bit (ztran) when he fires. This adds movement to the lower half of the figure (without messing with the feet). Also, the recoil action should be quicker than the recovery to the fortify pose.

Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions.

OK. Another question:

I made the figure a little beefier by increasing the X and Z scales by 120%. I correspondingly made the clothing bigger by the X and Z scales to fit this. However, now when I move the body, the shirt and pants lose their precise fit. Is there a way to make the clothes fit more precisely when I've changed the size of Michael?

Thanks.

Cool. I changed the camera scale instead of the figure and that seems to work a little better. I'll have to play around with it a little more.

Based on what you have implemented and are going for...this seems appropriate. It is always good to take note of the actions and exactly what you what the unit to do. It is well worth experimenting and testing to gain exactly what you want. As has been said..."if first you don't succeed, try, try again". Coming along very well indeed.

Due to Parenting of body parts in figures it is not possible to save just a part of the Body Pose without saving all. Think of this as 1 Figure that you cannot cut in half.
You can pose the Figure as you want the upper or lower body to be and save just one frame for use to gain that position. You can then use Copy and Paste for the Positions you want to change on a Frame such as the upper or lower body.

Adjust the Figure position as you want the Upper body to be for example. Then save that one frame. You can load that to gain the position then if you want to change the Lower Body to another Position such as the lower body position on a previous frame, you can use Copy and Paste to gain that position for the Lower Body Parts. Reverse this example for Lower body poses you want to save.
