General Turn Discussion

General forum suggests Saturn haven't met anyone yet. Then again, that could be bluff.

Methos is a Cav.
He did seem to indicate (by mistake) that they know Saturn.

I know our guy is woodsman and all that (Ooooh I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok...) but I'm also all about bonus hill vision. Looks like two hill tiles to the south but maybe we can see further to the west by going SW.

Am good with giving map info to Mad Scientists. They are financial, just like us, so the two of us might be a very strong tech partnership.

And it is all "useless info" meaning that they will know it themselves in the next 5-8 turns. but still it makes us look friendly :D

oh - well, if we think Cav knows saturn, they aren't to our NE - we should ask MS where they are, so we can start getting some idea where people might be.

Stuy: SW is riskier, NW is safer. Either work...although we may want to play safe.

Zuur: S, promote to woods2, next turn move NE NW, turn after kill the barb on the cow.

From where we are it goes like this (clockwise)

US
Kaz (to our E)
Cav (to Our SE)
MS (to our W)
Saturn (to our SW)

this would put us at the "top" of one of the star points.

*note MS and saturn locations are interchangeable

Actually, is that a hill 2SW of Stuy? If that is the case, then W might be better, for the same risk.

Little teaser for Krill. Any ideas for a city site?

Which one of those is the perfect site? The barb city looks ok to me - has pigs and cows and is on a river. The southwestern site seems good, too, but is a little resource light.

It means SW of the sign. 1SW gets corn, pigs, bana and cows, the city itself now misses the banana. I'd love to keep it, but we can't afford to tie up Barentz from scouting, and it would cripple our research...

I would say that MS & Saturn are reversed and that Kaz, not Cav have met Saturn. If Kaz & Cav are as close as we suspect, then their WB may have met Saturn 'round the horn, hence Methos' surprise that we have not met Saturn yet. We know MS & Cavs have long-ish term contact, so that also suggests the two are next to each other.

edit: it's probably also an inverted star with us in the NE & Cav at the bottom.

Oh - I missed the banana and corn.

We could just let it be for awhile - either it's a great city for another civ, or it's way out of the way for everyone else.

We should have that city settled by t110 at the latest, by my reckoning, and that includes expanding for the two eastern city sites. Definately worth it, as NE city (even with all of the forests chopped to speed growth, there are 13 forests, so with maths that is enough hammers for granary, forge, lib and NE, with 2 spare due to forge bonus). It can support 7 specialists at size 11 (with CS and calendar, which we should have by the time it scales those heady heights). It's definately a city site that we should push for.

Looking at the numbers, it shouldn't cost us more than 7, 8 at the most GNP after city 5 is settled, if we were to keep it. Grr. I'd say if we were to capture a worker, it'd be worth it from a domestic PoV, because it would only cost us about 6gpt, because it could road to the river, but it would really screw with scouting for Saturn, because Barentz would have to be assigned to defense duty, which we cannot afford at any cost, really. Getting another unit down there would take 10 turns at the least.

Probably for the best to just raze it and use the gold to fund deficit research, even if we were to find a worker. If the worker were to find it's way to CK, awesome, if not, no biggie, not like they are overly expensive to us...(If you hadn't noticed, I'd like to keep the city...although the city site signalled is just so much more awesome, it takes 25 turns max to hit size 11 using just the tiles we can see).

So sailing next turn. Are goung to build a galley and sail west?

Send the next axe down to it and send Barentz on his way. We don't need to deal with it now, do we? We haven't seen any other exploring axes and no one is going to attack it with warriors. If we want it, we can take it out later - no need to do it now. Sure, we run a risk of losing it to another civ, but like I said - either it's right in someones front yard, in which case they will be pissed at us for taking it, or it's in the middle of the island, in which case everyone else will have teh same problems.

After the workboat, there is a little bit of leeway. The current CDP calls for a trireme, but an axe makes sense because of the amount of barbs that are coming from the east, and we want Zuur to head of scouting the east. Also, if we trap the workboat, we need a trireme or galley around in 10 turns to kill it if they refuse to give in to our offers/demands, in which case, we might as well push back the boat until after the axe. Does it delay scouting? Yeah, it delays scouting the west with a boat, but it speeds sending Zuur off to the SE.

The next axe would take 10 turns to get down there, even shuffling the axes wouldn't speed this up.

BTW how freaked is MS right now. They have now seen us with 4 axemen...oh btw i totally see the great wall being built soon...
