I play on emperor, and I'm not doing the best at generating science. I hit industrial around turn 240-250ish and I'm wondering how to do it faster.

Main way is the two city NC:
Techs: Pottery, Literature, (the worker techs *), beeline to Philosophy
Cash rush the one in the second city. **

* Techs required to improve the luxuries and enough of the techs for your bonus resources so your workers don't go idle but not those your workers wouldn't get to before Philosophy is researched some map settings & difficulty levels also call for Archery
** Side note: What we're really after is NOT delaying the building of the National College waiting for the base building to be completed. Some starts may generate enough cash for a 3rd city like playing Spain and having a natural wonder extremely close.

Later on (this is after the basic building techs); make Education a priority and fill those University slots.

I found I need to switch all specalist into Science one to pump GS to chase the science progress for other AI. But in this way, I lost so many valuable world wonder as I don't have GE.

You can also have high food cities running both GE & GS slots to get some of each, but yes if the city only has enough food for one type of specialist, then Scientists take priority.

Last few game I have been opening Tradition>Liberty to free settler. You get it around t40. Meanwhile tech like you said and you can slow build the Lib in city 2 by the time Philo is done.

You only get 2 cities by turn 50 this way. I guess 3 is possible.

More question:

1) As the "Two city NC" trick is to minimize the cost for building NC at early stage. Is there any turns requirement, say before T100, or any figure that this strategy work best? Just for a reference to see how well should be and experience player did.

2) About the specialist, will you guys put on the specialist once the building finished? Like just after the university built, you will put the scientist work on to start garthering the GPP?

The idea behind 2-city NC is to build the NC quite quickly, say by turn 60-70, so you can resume dropping cities as quickly as possible. Works really nicely when you have calendar-based luxuries in your capital, since calendar is on the beeline path to Philosophy. Build an early library in your capital (or GL, if that seems attainable--easy on Emperor if you have a spare forest to chop) and rush-buy a settler for your second city. To get started on NC as quickly as possible, either chop a forest in your second city to rush your library there, or rush-buy the library.

Start working science specialists as soon as the university is up. You also need to keep growing, so if you are severely food strapped, you need to fix that as soon as possible (e.g., friendships with 2 maritime CSs will allow you to work 2 specialists in your capital on a food-neutral basis until the food bonus from Civil Service kicks in).
