I've never seen this, but check it out (unmodded C3C 1.22). And I've not even discovered The Wheel:

I have seen shots like this, but according to the post Mike B (firaxis) made long time ago on goody huts, warriors are all that is available. So it must be a bug.

I remember time when I got horsemen and archers from goody huts in Civ2.

This might be off-topic but I wonder why barbarians are so limited in Civ3?

In the proccess is a mod called powerhouse. It is a realism mod and greatly increases the realism of the game. Barbarians Are one of the things that have been changed. They are alot stronger. It sould be out soon.

Personally I'd like to see modern-age barbarians driving round in Toyota pick-ups with either ToWs or machine guns mounted on the back.

Actually, I've done a lot of testing here while implementing the 'Skilled Barbarian Raiders' into the RAR mod.

As usually, the rules are highly confusing :crazyeye:.

1) To get a certain unit from a hut, you need to have this unit enabled for your Civ (but don't have to be able to build it yet, neither technologically nor because of resources).
2) To get a certain unit from a hut, at least 4 Civs must be (theoretically!) able to build that unit. The oddest part is that enabling that unit with a starting tech for 4+ Civ not in the game does work as well.
Example: Replace the Barb Warrior with Archers, and you'll get that ones right from the start even if no MIL Civ is in the game.
3) 'Being able to build it' for 4+ Civs includes seeing the resource for 4+ Civs (but not 'having it connected')
4) You always get the 'more basic' Barbarian unit.

For mods, this means if you want a unit from huts that cannot be built by any Civ you need a dummy resource; either one that isn't on the map at all (but would be visible), or use Whales, Fishes etc (a resource that cannot be connectde ever).

For unmodded, it only matters for Sumeria in C3C (at least, that's what I thought before this shot):
Sumeria can never get a Skilled Barb Warrior (because Warriors are not enabled for them). But, once 4+ Civs can theoretically build Horseman, they can get those (chances should be the same).
Same was true for Aztecs pre-C3C.

Now in this example:
1) Which Civ is that? Sumeria with a changed color (you can do that in the ini, without moddifying the biq)? Dutch? England?
2) If not Sumeria - do you have Iron Working, and Iron connected? Could be you do not get an obsolete unit.

I got a horseman once. I think it was in PTW. But it was so long ago I don't remember.

Interesting write up, doc.

I got horseman from the hut a few times in PTW, but never in C3C.

The only thing I ever got that was different was a spearman and I was playing as Sumaria.

As an asside, my modded C3C has a civ with none of the standard buildable ancient age units and playing them yeilded me an army. It has happened with this civ more than once. As I understand it, the unit you get has to be buildable by your civ so if you can't build any of the standard ancient age units, you end up getting workers or rarely an army. Does that seem correct with those of you who have tested hut results?

Hm, I wanted to come up with some explanation like "maybe not enough Civs can build Warriors any longer...", but I can't test it - I get The Wheel. Not a horse.

But that doesn't mean I don't believe you, microbe. It's just that the RNG tables aren't always the same if a safe is transferred from one machine to another (as often enough seen in SGs).
Sorry, I cannot explain it. It could indeed be a bug, seriously.

I manipulated the rng seed in this game. The result is that I get a horse in about 3-4% of the times i get units.

Doc, can you give me a save right after you get the wheel?

Here is the post:

About the goody huts, here is the quote from Firaxis: quote: It's not really that it's difficult; it's just that it was implemented by an intern . Here are the conditions: Gold: *The tile must not have any type of resource or luxury on it.

Maps: --always available

Nothing: --always available

Settler: *Player must not have a settler (active or in production) or any unit with the Settle AI strategy. *Number of player's cities must be <= (Total_Cities / NumActivePlayers).

Mercenaries (skilled warrior): *There must be a unit available to the Barbarians as well as the player and that unit must be able to be built (or have been built) by some player in the game.

Tech: *Player must still be in Ancient Times.

Barbarians: *Player must not have Expansionist trait. *There must not be a city within a 1-tile radius. *The player must have at least 1 city. *The player must have at least 1 military unit. *The unit popping the hut must not have the "All Terrain As Roads" ability.

I got it once in PTW, and I know what causes it.

In the editor, it has the civs in a box who can get the unit. When "A Barbarian Chiefdom" is selected, that means you can pop them from goody huts. So, if you want MA, Cannons, Workers, Riders, Spearmen, ICBMs, etc from goody huts, just check them and they will pop.

I got a popped horseman in C3C. I was playing as the byzantines, in the medieval age, and popped the hut with a horseman. Strange, huh?

i got a horse man once, but whats even wierder is once i got a modren armor unit!!! i was in the ancent age and it rocked :P
