Okok, CiV is streamlined. It is more a wargame than a historical simulation. I have accepted that and i got used to it. I accually like playing CiV when the AI puts up opposition but one thing is really annoying to me and is killing my immersion:

How can it be that a man, who is known in history for restricting himself of ABSOLUTE non-violence up to the level of no self-defence, dow's on me at least once in a game when we are neighbours??

From what i know about Gandhi he was someone who would never ever harm a thing and so was he telling his followers. Even hit by sticks nobody should react with violence. On the contrary, he put himself on hunger strike which obviously hurts noone but himself.
And when that guy comes up to me and dow's then that feels wrong!! I mean I'm not surprised Genghis doing that (its acually the reason why we love him :D ) because he was known for massive expansion and the overthrowing of dozens of nations.

I understand that CiV is a wargame and that all nations should be able to declare war but then please: Dont put Gandhi in such a game! Their must be other leaders of India who were more warmongers than he was. Acually its a little let down for the great person the was.

What are your thoughts about this??

I don't mind if Gandhi does go to war at all. It's necessary as part of the game. Gameplay is more important than realism. The benefit derived in coolness through have Gandhi in the game is greater than the oddness of having him declare war.

a little mistake :P

A Mughal Emperor like Babur or Aurangzeb would be a perfect replacement for Gandhi in ciV. :p

I think its funny when I used to play this game ghandi was a huge warmonger in every game, but to be fair I remember this happening in civ 4 as well. I can remember one game of civ 4 where chandi was a chrisitan warmonger.

It is a well known fact that Gandhi is the meanest dude in the game... And that Monty and Napoleon are his kittens.

Huh, really? I have played like 100 games in Civ 4 and i can not remember Gandhi dow on me even ONCE. Having him as neighbour always was like: "Great, my borders are secure even if i dont put units there" or "great, a victim that i can easily overtake". And im talking about emperor, which i remember was not that bad in civ 4.

I've had some weird games in Civ 4 where Gandhi declares wars regularly (instead of everyone DOW on him) and where Shaka and Monty are my best buds!

probably random personalities :-)

Nah, definitely not that. I don't think I've ever ticked that. It's probably nothing to do with vanilla Civ 4, maybe ROM and it's submods.

Bibor posted a table (in strategy forums, diplomacy by numbers) which shows Ghandi is most likely to cause a nuclear holocaust - Ghandi. The good man never had a single nuke.

To be fair I like that the leaders are not just normal static personalitys, I like that you dont know what to expect from them that way its not just hey ghandi will never war with me, it adds more flavor to the game.

Meh, that's nothing. One game I brought him back from the dead & gave him 3 other cities to lighten my unhappiness and he DoWed me 20-odd turns later.

Ok, it was the end-of-game leader dogpile, but still. Anyway, second time he stayed dead.

He's portrayed ingame as whiney, passive-aggressive and hypocritical. Makes a nice change from those who are just hostile and hypocritical.
