Hi there everyone, i have ghosted these forums for over a year, i am an original civ1 player all the way up2 now, but till this map came along, i never ventured to post here....

first things first

THANK YOU genghis- this map is truly sensational, i truly feel like i am playing on a real map of earth instead of some crude approximation....
i just thought i would give ppl here some feedback (for those with slower comps for example) what the game has been like for me...

edit- i play as incas, normal barbs, no tech trades, monarch level...marathon speed

the year is 1404 and i am leader of the incas.....playing at monarch level....
let me tell you guys it has been one HELL of a tough slog fighting against the barbarians,
they just kept coming out of those mists, i didnt even have a chance to fog bust...i play at marathon level and i swear for a good 200-300 turns i was killing 5 barbs a turn,
it was a bitter struggle in the deadly jungles of the amazon, but i finally conquered all of south america...the game takes about 2 minutes between turns (note to everyone, after 1000ad, u prob need a 2gig ram comp like mine) i bet at about 1400, u start needing a 3gig, i have had 2 mem allocation failures, i think this could be a bug with the firaxis programming as they simply never expected ppl would make such HUGE maps lol....
some thoughts on what is happening around the AI world....

it was tough for me to conquer SA against the barbs, for the americans and the aztecs it has proved harder still, i play with tech trades off, and those 2 civs have been still stuggling hugely as those massive unexplored hinterlands keep churning out barbs...

4000 bc, started with 24 civs, by 1 ad, 3 civs were dead out of the game...the indians the koreans and the egyptians,
100 turns later, the french devoured the germans with the help of the romans...
200 turns later, the romans have collapsed, shaka has vassalised 3 states, the chinese 4, and their armies pulverized rome to a pulp, watching from afar with lone caravals it was quite a sight to see MASSIVE armies clash like that

england is in the process of destruction as i speak, everyone is getting in on the act, she doesnt stand a chance, 20 turns ago i witnessed a 30 ship chinese convey round the southern tip of SA heading straight for england, it was quite an intimidating sight, thank god they are on pleased terms with me...

other thoughts, china has an army of 7million, infantry and such like..
i have 2 million, our production capacities are roughly equal, but i just cant catch up

HOWEVER i have noticed something interesting.....
china lacks oil, i am switching to destroyers and transports now, china isnt...
china is huge and if they get oil i am sure they will become unbeatable....if we were playing this map 2-3 years from now, and all of us had 4 gig ram or what have you, this map would be VERY awesome as all of a sudden china switches from being in the lead, to lacking oil and getting hit by a clever human opponent..
as it is i fear the mem allocation failures will only increase...i am gonna keep on playing the incas though until my comp gives up

another thing, i read earlier in the thread, the indians were very strong, has this been changed, i didnt witness the battles myself, but india was crushed pretty near the start of the game....

and another random thing of interest...
u should see australia rofl,
a proper industrialised barb nation, roads linking its major cities, no civ has even tried to conquer it.....

I LOVE THIS MAP
ty!

First, let me say awesome map. So much so, that I am on the verge of tears. I spent several hours playing yesterday when it crashed saying, "memory allocation error."

I have a 3.0Ghz dual-core AMD system with 3GB of RAM and a 512MB video-card. I was not expecting to see this issue. Any ideas?

what year did u make it to? i made it to 1490 before my comp started getting them too much, but the thing is, though i have 2gig ram, the mem allocation failure kicked in whenever i got more than 1.6gig ram being used, xp computers are capable of using Hard disks as virtual memory but it was crashing before this......
i suspect this may be a flaw inherent right now within civ4/warlords... any ideas?

SharpMango, Thanks for your story sharing and your appreciation :D

Regarding the mem allocation failure, it seems like we can't do much about it and I won't think Faraxis will give us any support on it as this is a non-standard size map.

When I load the mod my game freezes (when it,s downloading) and says 'runtime error' this happens with every single map i tried to load, i don't understand...!

Nice work, I'd like to let you know I'm using your map for a modern scenario I'm making. It's basically the present with the 24 Civs given. I'm about more than 1/3 done with it already.

Nice. Please keep me informed of your progress. There are too many things I am interested to do but time is limited. I am very happy if someone is willing to do the work and I can just play it :) I can also give some advises if needed.

hi, it looks like a good map but can you post the map with out new civs please with the warlords civs.for somereson the mod doesn't work.

Is there anyway to edit out some of the computer players? I would like to run this map using 3 people on LAN without Computer players. I know there is a way as I have done it with older maps. But am unsure how I did it before. Thanks

Also is there anyway I can make different civs then the ones already in there?

Played around with the map a bit, looking at different starts, and one of my friends hopped on and played as Japan for a few turns. We didn't go far so no memory problems or anything but china did bloom early. This is a problem I've heard mentioned a couple times and I have a potential solution for it.

One reason china wasn't larger and more powerful than it is in real life is that it was constantly dealing with fragmentation and barbarian invasion during it's early history. Adding in a few barbarian cities around asia early on would certainly make china have a more difficult time of things starting out without actually crippling them.

The threat of the early hun in the north led to the building of the great wall, which in civ IV is the ultimate answer to repeated barbarian invasion.

These locations are already held by the koreans and the mongols, so one way to hinder china from taking over would be to boost these civilizations a bit. Having done that you could also enable, as default, the aggressive AI option so that the computer players would be more likely to turn to war rather than peaceful trade.

so why not have a barb intenccity zone ,a tool which is put on curtain squares which makes the barbs 100% more likely to generate a barb.its an idea (not atacly made)

where can I get this map for regular CIV IV (without warlords)? as I understand the latest version is warlords only and I don't see any links for downloading earlier versions.

3500+ AMD processor
2 gigs of memory

I can get to 1100 AD on Monarch before the memory allocation errors make it impossible to play.

I've found that every single time playing as Germany, the first people to attack me are always the Greeks. About five games now. I haven't launched any wars of my own, it's all been retaliatory. First after defeating and wiping out the Greeks, the Egyptians and Zulus both declared war on me but I killed all of their armies and made peace (to my advantage). They then proceeded to declare war on each other that would last until the game crashes. The Greek wars fortunately resulted in three generals that would prove critical. In the midst of this the Norse declared war on me, and just as I started transporting my armies from the Balkan wars to the North the Russians and Arabs (who had all of Eastern Turkey) both declared war on me.

As my armies wiped out the Norse by sea (oh the irony), they moved Eastward to threaten the Northern most Russian cities. Meanwhile I had had a ridiculously hard time fending off the Russians whose territoy spiked into my own giving them only a two-three movement to attack three of my cities around it. The Arabs were easier as I could cut them off in the mountain passes, but still everything was spread very very thin. During this I built up my military forces but had to essentially transfer everything from West to East. Fortunately for all of this I was technologically superior.

My armies in the North led by my two Generals came down by sea and took the Russians Northern coastal cities while my extensive defence on the borders was now freeded up into a second army when added to my all out military production, and another general resulting from the defence. Russia had thrown all of it's military force against me, so it's cities were not impressively defended, again my technological superiority helped. The Russians were quickly wiped out, they had only about 8-10 cities as they had not expanded Eastwards into the infinate tracks of unclaimed forests. I made peace with the Arabs as they were much stronger, but having continuously repulsed them it was in my favour.

However just as this Eastern War was finishing up the French declared war on me in my extremely defenceless West. I had to transfer half of my Eastern armies while the war against Russia was yet to conclude, and spend great amounts of money buying defence (I had the Pyramids). The French however despite the initial threat were a pushover compared to the Arabs and their blasted Camels or the Russians and their Knights, they only had Elephants. It wasn't long before my Eastern forces got the battlefront, now led by Four generals (all at this point Cavalry with around 60-90 points of promotion). The French were wiped out very quickly, but unfortunately had colonised one small island off the coast of Great Britain meaning my transports that were all the way on the other side of seaways from invading Russia had to be shipped across.

Unfortunately that's where it became unplayable. Greeks, Norse, Russians, and almost French all dead.

Other points of note:

Australia/Papua New Guinea are still Barbarian nations.

The Incas have exapaned in a V shape down the Andes, then back up the Atlantic coast, but have avoided the middle desptie no barbarians.

The Americans and Aztecs haev both likewise refused to expanded into the West, with only a couple of Barbarian cities blokcing them.

The Turks, Persia, and India have all mish-mashed their cities from Central Asia to Southern India. India itself it a band of two Indian cities, a band of two Persian cities, then finally a band of two Turkish cities.

By placing one city on top of Italy, I can stop Rome from ever expanding or even exploring into the North. They are so backward that I have absorbed both Rome and another city leaving them only with Antium in South Italy, and a city on the Canary Islands.

Carthage has played no role in anything, but has risen to a top five world powers just with it's North African lands.

The Mali have likewise become a top five nation, and turned into seafearers and have colonised New Zealand.

Unfortunately , EXCELLENT and UNBELIEVABLE COOL MAPS as these are...
