Giant Earth Map (Eurasia Upscaled), 24 civs

sigh... it's things like these that show exactly how arrogant Americans are.

1. Do you think any other civ's (nation) flag matches their actual flag correctly? What's the point in replacing the flag for this one civ, IN A GAME!? It serves no purpose, it's just window dressing. If you don't like it, you simply don't have to stare at it and drool while singing the star spangled banner like you probably do everytime you see an American flag.

2. Hmmm... yes. let's compare the CONTINENT of Asia to the COUNTRY of the USA... No, that's not arrogant at all. Really. I'm serious, it's not.

Oh, and before you call me an "American Hater" or anything like that, you should probably know that I am an American, and it simply sickens me to see such arrogance in my fellow Americans.

BTW, great map... good work.

Honestly, if someone wants to replace a flag in their game with another one, why should you care? You're making all kinds of assumptions about his character and beliefs based off of his preference for a certain flag? And you called who arrogant?

That said, I prefer Europe in the center of the map. It just feels right.

Actually, the center of the map is at 0 GTM... About the other guy, I think his sight must not be very good as he saw the center in America ;)

And i am in 830 AD and are told that there is only 68 turns left, what is that and can i disable it???

Perhaps the map has a set speed, like normal, and you are using one like marathon...

Oh, is that right? Then I should take that max number of turn away. Thanks for reporting that.

About the the centre of the map, well, It's just my personal choice :)

That's a really nice map. A little too big for me, but (and I hope this isn't taken the wrong way), just the right size to be "cut-up" for smaller maps centered on a specific region or continent.

Can't run it. It says it fails to read. Any help would be appreciated as I would really like to try out your map.

You probably have not run the Earth24 civ mod. Just follow the installation instruction from the first post.

Genghis Kai, any news on an update? Thanks!

I've seen it said several times in this thread that you can "cut out" parts of the map to create new region-specific maps. How does one do this? I have been unable to locate any tutorial detailing it.

yeah true, i am playing marathon on this map, because i like this map and want a game to last a long time, so tons of troops and cities, so cool this map :)

so looking forward to the change, as i have not been able to change the turns myself to unlimited :(

I've already done the changes I've mentioned in the first post. But I didn't want to release it yet because I don't to make so many versions available so frequently - people will get annoyed by this. I also want to wait a bit to get more feedback.

So for the time being, you can just open the file with notepad or wordpad. Only in the first few lines, there is a line said something like "MaxNumberOfTurn = 460". Just change the number to 1000, what Marathon speed usually has.

The only way I know that you could easily cut and paste is using MapEditor.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=144414

Actually, to build this map, I've been using MapEditor to do cut and paste SOOO many times. Without it, the creation of this map won't be possible. Now you reminded me to include it in my acknowledgement section as well.

Having that said, the MapEditor is not perfect. What I found is that after I used the editor, I will lost all the river directions settings, which was a nightmate because I have to go through EVERY single tiles that contains rivers and correct them.

oh damn i started playing yesterday, and now i've realized my version has that turn limit bug. is there a way to change my saved game so i don't have to start over?

some other observations from playing roman

1. way too many stones in rome. even if italy produces a lot of stone IRL, there are too many resources there. no iron at all in rome... i had to take paris to get its iron to build my UU

2. i don't know if it's a good idea to move the turks away from turkey. greece just grew unchecked, it was huge! the russians got taken out very early, and i have a feeling it might have been greece

3. aztecs got taken out early! americans must have had loads of resources! on rhye's map it's always the other way around

please if anyone knows how to change the turn limit in a save game, let me know

Thanks for feedback, will take your comments into consideration. I am thinking to release version 1.11 this coming weekend.

For your saved game, you can do the same to fix the MaxTurn problem. Just read my previous post on how to fix that.

i tried opening my save game, but it does not look like the map file. i was able to find the maxturn in your map file, but in the save file almost everything is in garbage characters, except the beginning part containing the names of the civs. i did a search for 460 and couldn't even find that. am i doing something wrong?

Bug fixes:
1) Max number of turn was 460. Changed to 1000.

That still would provoque a bug because Marathon has 1200. ;)

I´m pretty sure that deleting the number altogether adjusts the cap to the speed directly.

Yes, you are opening the savegame file instead of the map file... ;)

Looks like I have told a lie. I always thought the saved games are in the same file format as the world builder's file. But it is not.

So, if you really want to play your saved game, you can open up your saved game in world builder and make a save. Then change that setting. Reload your new scenario as a new game.

But Elhoim is right, I should just delete that line entirely. The problem is that each time when I reopen the game and make changes, the program automatically generated the line again and I just have to remember to take it out before I release the file.

Genghis Kai, are you gonna put some iron in Italy. It seems wrong that you can´t build praetorians...

I've just made a lot of changes. Please my updated log.

i tried the save game to worldbuilder way, and it worked! well there is an unfortunate and amusing side effect

just for kicks, i played as the aztecs, who were already eliminated, to see what would happen. instead of losing the game as soon as it began, i found myself with a settler and scout, on top of a ruin, with a barbarian archer on the next tile  i built the city anyway and the barb archer attacked, ending my game

looks like aztecs starts on tundra, no wonder they got killed by the americans. my impression is that they were in tropical jungle?

then i reloaded as romans properly. everything looked normal, but then i realized france and spain were alive again even though i eliminated them already, and they had paris and madrid, which were mine  thankfully i was still at war with them, so i killed them again. several other things i noticed too:

i lost my research process, not a big deal.

all previous relation modifiers with AIs disappeared, i sweated a little as the germans were cautious instead of pleased. thankfully they didn't attack

all city building progress were lost. i was building the colossus in rome, and wasn't sure if i would finish on time. since everybody obviously lost their build progress, and rome had so much production, i easily built the colossus from scratch.

so now i'm mostly back on track, and i turned off time victory altogether. i wonder if it's a known bug for eliminated civs to come back to life, and automatically reclaim their capital?
