Giant Earth Map - Version 4

I´ve played this map (BTS version) once and it was fantastic. For me is best one I ever play, and I am playing civ until civ II.
But this strange thing happen during my play. I played for Poland (aprox 3 - 5 weeks on marthon version) and I was 4th with very good position. Around year 700 - 800 AD game starts to write :confused:50 turns last and sudennly game ended.
Anybody knows why? Some setting?

Hi there. Again, I have forgotten to remove those extra header lines before releasing the files. To fix it yourself, please open the WBS file and remove the line that says "MaxTurns=500".

I will fix that soon.

just fyi, I tried downloading and still get an error. I'll just wait to try again once you post that it's up and working.

Also, I re-read the notes.. says it only work with v 2.08, but I think the new patch for Macs was to 2.13, does that mean it wouldn't work for me anyway?

I just tried and all 3 downloads for different versions work for me. What was your error?

for the v2.08 issue, are you referring to the warlords download? Like many other mods for warlords, GEM works on patch 2.08 only because since then, BTS is released and most modders have migranted to develop mods for BTS. So to play on warlord, you will need to reinstall and patch to 2.08 only. 2.13 wouldn't work.

I just downloaded it successfully, but I read your point that it won't work with 2.13, and I didn't keep a bakcwards copy of Warlords 2.08, so I'll monkey around with it at a later point. Has anyone tried loading it into 2.13 just to see if by chance it would work?

Hi,

this map is really great, love it! But got some trouble with it :

Using vanilla Civ, downloaded the mod for it, works fine.
Played the game until the year 1600AD, then it crashed with low memory :(
OK, u said there can be problems with it, either i have a quad core cpu, 4GB Ram(3 active on 32bit Vista), Geforce 8600GT ... well, not so bad, should work..but ok, wanted to try to play with less than those 18 civs, hoped the time waiting between turns would be better, too.
But i cant handle to choose just 9 Civs, for example. In the game the KI Players are locked, cant change, deselect them. Opened the file with an editor, set PlayableCiv=0, but that just causes that i couldnt choose them to play myself, KI played them either. So i tried to delete 9 civs complete out of this file. Deleted from "Begin Player" up to "End Player". But if i do so, the game crashes while loading the map.

What can i do to play just with selected civs? i only want :

egypt
india
france
germany
american
uk
chinese
japan
russia

thx for ur help

Have you removed both civs and leaders? Then you(, not sure,) have to remove all removed civ's units from plots.

OK. I have decided my next scenario will be 200 BC on GEM. There were many interesting events happening around the world at that period and I will include all of the events 200 BC +-50 years in the scenario. On top of my head, these events include:
Punic war between Rome and Carthage;
Asoka's unification of India;
Han's war with Xiong Nu.

For the next release of GEM, i will also include some simple mods to units, which should hopefully adds more diversity to the civilizations but not dramatically changing the gameplay too much.

For example, the mongol camp component has been add (thanks to Fierabras).

Aiming to be about 1 month from now (say 1st of May) for the next release.

Might be simpler to set up the wanted start civ cities in WBS, remove all non-wanted units from the map and save the edited WBS. (If all non-wanted civs are set to non-playable, i.e. zero, that should work fine.) That's how I create my scenarios anyway.;)

@Genghis_Kai: Sounds cool! (On 200 BC: Don't forget the rise of Parthia, which gobbled up most of the Seleucid empire. Also: the Macedonian Wars and the rise of Pontus.)

(Proto-)Slavs* are first evidenced in the 6th century AD. Also, you've added Celt (but Gaul & Britons would be Celt;if you use Celt, Celtiberians, Thracians and Galatians may also be included therein) and chucked the Greek (city states)? (I miss Pontus and Pergamon, though. I realize one has to make choices, but at least Pontus should be in. Or is that an event?) Just my 2 cents.;)

*I realize these may be sensitive issues, but Slav, German and Briton are inappropriate terms for this time period. (Germanic would be appropriate, though.)

Otherwise an impressive list.

Great Map!

Excuse my mod-ignorance, but is there any way that this mod could be merged with one of the "Modern Warfare" type mods? Would unit speeds etc. need to be adjusted?

I'd love to make some real-world type scenarios with this bad boy.

I'd like to play a game on this, but I'd like to know what to expect, especially in the late game. My computer has a 256 MB video card and 4 GB RAM, so it should be okay; however, does anyone have a saved game for version 4.2, preferably from the industrial age onwards, that they could attach here so that I can play a few turns to see what it's like? I'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance!

How tough are loading times on this map in the modern era for an average new PC with this map? (2gb ram, 2.6Ghz X2 64 duels)

Just wondering if it's any quicker than the other huge map lots of civs scenerio maps in the mods section. (The current one I'm playing has crashed on me a few times, and even when it doesn't, it still takes as much as 3-5 minutes between turns in the modern era.)

Wouldn't it be nice if someone posted a modern-age save for us to try out, as I wrote in my post above? ;)

Wouldn't it be nice if someone posted a modern-age save for us to try out, as I wrote in my post above? ;)

I'm currently preparing a Modern Age scenario set on GEM with 35 civs planned. At the end of next week I expect to be able to do some playtesting - which may result in dropping some civs if gameplay turns out undesirably slow.

What year your modern scenario is based on?
