I'm Egypt, and the Ottomans aren't even participating in the game I'm playing - was just gifted a janissary by a CS (Hanoi). Is there a logic to this I'm not seeing? Or is this a bug?

The game states in info that it may only be built by Ottomans

Yup, I've noticed this from time to time as well. I actually like it because it adds a bit of randomness to your game. Imagine getting a random English Longbowman!

All militaristic city states in G&K now will gift a unique unit of a civ that is not in the game when it is available.

You can find out what unit a given militaristic city state gives by hovering the mouse pointer at the proper spot on the city state screen. I forget the exact line within the city state screen - try somewhere near the center.

cool! thanks for the info everyone, definitely adds a bit of spice to the battle!

Definitively more cool! If Suleiman isn't in the game, be friend/ally a militaritic cs some turns before Gunpowder :goodjob:

I always seem to get the coolest units from the AI.

Elephants, Khans, Foreign Legonionaries...you name it. It's really fun.

I wish I could rename units. I'd like to be able to locate my highly upgraded ones at a glance.

You can! When the promotion screen pops up, there is a little "rename unit" button.

It's true! Militaristic city states now gift unique units.

You can see which UU a specific Militaristic civ will grant you by hovering the cursor over the word 'Militaristic' when you open the diplo panel for that city state.

They will only gift you the UU under the following circumstances though:

a) You must be allied - being 'friends' is not enough
b) You must have required resources available (e.g. you would need Horses available to get a Keshik, Iron available for a Legion etc)
c) You must already know the prerequisite technology (e.g. you would need Chivalry for the Keshik or Iron Working for the Legion) and it must be current (i.e. you will stop receiving Keshiks as soon as you research Military Science and you would stop receiving Legions as soon as you research Steel)

For as long as it can give you a Unique Unit, a Militaristic city state will always give it every time without fail.

The Unique Unit will also always be the UU of a Civ that is not in the current game (so this can tell you in advance who you will not be meeting if you haven't met all the AI civs yet)

Bearing in mind the guidelines listed above, Militaristic CS's now add a much richer strategic dimension to the game than they did before.

Great addition IMO! :)

You can get even a Khan if you have the Patronage SP which gives GP . I had a Khan leading Celtic Hordes in my last game. XD
