The last order-of-go that I noted looked like this:

alerum68 - Warming up
coletite -
GJ - Just played
qm1- MIA (at sea?)
Mistfit- UP
SolarKnight - On Deck

But based on a recent post, Alerum sounds ready to play.

Absent a sudden reappearance of the Khan, I'm deferring to Sir Bugsy to confirm or adjust this order of play.

I expect he'll be able to put a little more time into this game in the next few days. He and his team are wrapping up their SGOTM2 effort... which involves a slightly tedious endgame with the variant.

Let's give Bugsy another day or so to weigh in. I know he wants to get this one moving forward again.

Actually, I'll probably be able to play on wednsday. And as for Morrowind, I can't get enough of it. More in-depth then any other RPG I've ever played. So many different options... the other day I killed this one guy and it ended my game because I broke the thread of prophesy... never had a game with even a CONCEPT like that. Damn it, now I want ot play again!

Yeah, be careful of Morrowind. It's quite the addicting game :)

I played for a while, but I focused too much on the power gaming element and so got very powerful very quickly - to the point where the game really wasn't all that interesting.

I'm not about to dust it off again, though. Probably should be careful about getting hooked on another one...

BTW - it's been in my sig for a while, but I'll be leaving town this Wednesday and returning next Sunday. I don't know what my internet access status will be on the trip, so I may not be able to post while I'm gone.

That sounds fair scout, Any areas of the thread i should pay particular attention to?

Rather than trying to catch up on big chunks of the thread, download > GJ's Save < (the latest one), and consider these questions I posted earlier:

1) What would you do to finish the Zulu? How would you (generally) pursue the campaign? Would you send some Mounted Warriors over there?

2) Scroll through each of our cities. I mean, pull up "City View" for one of them, and then use the arrow keys to look at the city view of every dadgum city we've got, and answer the following:

2a) Which cities need border expansions?
2b) Which cities need some "serious worker turns"?
2c) Which cities have unit factory and/or commerce/science potential, and what do we need to do to realize that potential?

Before spending a bunch of time crafting a detailed response to the questions, have a look at GJs thoughts, and some more of GJs thoughts, and Mistfit's thoughts. If you see something they might have overlooked, or if you have a different opinion about something, suggest it to the team.

@Coletite: if I missed your thoughts, I apologize.
@Alerum: please add to this... I know you've got some ideas....

I know this little exercise is dry, but there are a couple of reasons that I think it's useful.

First - "situational analysis" is a useful skill in SGs. Some players (like me) put more into the logs than others (like Bede) want to read. Other players (Gozpel, for example) have a habit of giving you the wherewithall to capture Rome at Demi-God level, but put something like "go fight the Romans" in their after-action review...

Second - the sooner we can get you guys building your strategy together, the quicker can move the game to the point that the stronger players like Bede and Bugsy can give you guys some of the finer points that you're really here to get. I cannot wait to see your reaction when we get to serious city management stuff - Bede is just awesome at that - but the game will have to mature a bit more first.

On the questions: just hit the high points. On the "border expansion" question, I'm looking for the cities that cannot work 21 tiles because the borders aren't extended.

On the "cities that need worker turns" question... look for productive cities that have more than 1 citizen working unimproved tiles. What potential do you see in our cities, and what do we need to do to realize that potential?

On the Zulu question: just give a general idea how you would prosecute the war...

My thoughts:

We've waited this long to send MW over there, and I don't really see much need. A few more swords brought over via galleys will finish this war. Quick and brutal, I am going to raze each city instead worrying about flip risk, or having to secure a position. At this point this is a war of extermination, not a war of conquest... we can always resettle at our leisure. I don't want to use a MW for attack until all of our cities that are productive are building markets and courthouses for the added shields. It would be foolish to start this to quickly, especially since I've only 3-5 turns away from going for Persia anyway.

City management has already been covered by the team I believe. There isn't much more I'll be able to add to what the team has already said, at least until I go into my preturn and start to MM our cities. Border expansion isn't to high of a concern at this point, since most of our cities already have their best tiles in use already. I know there are alot of tiles that need to be improved... I may break the worker groups up now we have our road network done, and have 1 worker per a tile, 2 workers on hills, and 3 workers on mountains... this should speed up improvement in the long run.... and we should have enough workers to make sure that most of the tiles that aren't improved will be fairly quickly.

@Bugsy: Can I play, can I play?!?!

I agree with Alerum: use the swords in Zululand (plus any extras brought over by galleys, and raze away. Without having to worry about leaving swords to guard newly conquered cities, the existing units should be able to finish the war.

I'm glad you aggree... because any savages who don't aggree with me can take it up with my BOOM-STICK! Shop Smart... Shop S-mart.

Well, we have waiting a while now. Alerum, I think it may be time for you to count coup. Mount 'em up! Move 'em out! I want to see some serious scalps on those saddles!! :D

Awesome! I'll play on Weds afternoon, with some good news and new battle plans for future fights. Also, Bede I want some of that city mangement expertise, so I'm requesting you shadow my turns and critque as much as you like...

Edit: What's the right save?

It's linked in my post just up the page. Post number 1807 (egad! )

I am interested in reading this thread from the beginning (had I seen it in March, I might have joined in) but I see that the original save file seems to be missing. The original link to the save on page 2 says "http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/GKTDG-4000BC.SAV" but it doesn't seem to be there.

I figured I'd get the most out of the thread if I played through chunks of turns as the students did, and then read see how what I did compares to what they did and the instructors' comments.

Thanks,

I belive someone has a post that has all the savs in a zip format. I forget which post it was though.;)

Oh guys, I have a little suprise... Who likes Escargo <Spelling?>?

Something happened to the original file, and I don't remember what. This has come up before, so I uploaded another copy of the original save and linked it in this post on page 48. Have fun!

I've got all the TDG saves linked in 1 post. Check out my sig for the link.

My rule on food is that I will eat anything that won't eat me first, and some things that would try. (And yes, this includes alligator.) I love Escargot, as long as you can cook it better than you can spell it. :p

May we infer that a galley finally survived a suicide run?
